Ellen’s 60th Birthday Present: Finding Out What The Trumps Got The Obamas

It was Ellen DeGeneres’ 60th birthday on January 26, and the celebration episodes of her show air this week. She tweeted a photo of her posing with Michelle Obama and Jennifer Aniston yesterday, and I assumed that meant they’d spend an episode celebrating by reenacting an episode of Friends since Michelle seems like SUCH a Monica. Instead, we got to find out what was in that Tiffany’s box Melania Trump handed her on the front steps of the White House the day of Donald Trump’s inauguration.

Vanity Fair says that, during Michelle’s first TV interview since the Obamas left the White House, Ellen didn’t waste time asking about what seemed like an awkward AF transition where Melania handed over a blue box to the former First Lady. Michelle kind of coyly said, “Oh, yeah. The Tiffany’s box.” Michelle, don’t just shrug off Tiffany’s! The face on the White House milk carton, Tiffany Trump, is named after the jewelry chain, and it deserves to be revered!

Since there is a Tiffany’s in Trump Tower, the Trumps must know the staff and could have gotten the Obamas just about anything. Was it a diamond cock ring?! (Nah, Eminem wasn’t the one doing the gift giving) His-and-her watches?! A simple note begging them to take her with them to Richard Branson’s house?? Sadly, it wasn’t. It was more along the lines of a gift you give your kid’s piano teacher as a gesture of gratitude for taking the brat off your hands for one hour each week. Michelle said it was a “lovely frame.”

People kind of thought the whole “handing the present off” thing showed how nobody viewed inauguration day with much happiness (except for maybe Donald), as Michelle seemed to fumble with the present at the time. Michelle claims that isn’t the case at all. If anything, it’s that the White House staff had cleared out like the stock at a Loehmann’s bridal sale, and there wasn’t any staff to take the picture from her! Barack took the picture back inside away from the cameras and they took the photo.

Michelle didn’t articulate if the frame came with a note from Trump that stipulated it was a great way to display a birth certificate. But knowing Trump, it probably did. Click here to watch Michelle Obama tell that thrilling story to Ellen.
