Bruno Mars Took Home A Ton of 24K Gold-Plated Grammy Awards Last Night
Since it just so happened to be a year that Adele didn’t release an album and therefore wasn’t eligible to come in and sweep every category, the 60th Annual Grammy Awards were anyone’s guess. And much to the surprise and delight of your mom and your local Top 40 radio station and wedding DJs, the big winner was Bruno Mars.
Bruno took home six awards last night. He landed three of the Big Four: Album of the Year for 24k Magic, Record of the Year for “24K Magic“, and Song of the Year for “That’s What I Like.” (New Artist went to Canadian person Alessia Cara). 24K Magic also won Best R&B Album, and “That’s What I Like” – the song that gives you a hint about the contents of Bruno Mars’ trash bins (rotten lobster tails and empty bottles of champagne) also took home Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance. If only Bruno had thought to throw in a lyric about “First class to Kentucky, ride me like a pony,” I’m sure he would have won Best Country Song as well. But that went to Chris Stapleton, who ended up taking three awards. Other notable winners included Kendrick Lamar, with four, and Ed Sheeran with two.
There must be someone out there who is finally sick of “That’s What I Like” because Bruno didn’t perform that. Instead, Katie Holmes – and no I don’t know why either – called Bruno and Cardi B to the stage in the best vintage Cross Colors their stylists could find at the thrift store to perform “Finesse.”

Obviously Bruno Mars kind of swept all aspects of the Grammys. Although I would argue that his biggest accomplishment of the night was introducing the world to the mystery woman in pearls and beautiful bangs while accepting his awards.
E! News says that the mystery woman is Mary-Kay Coyne, the wife of the late sound engineer Tom Coyne. That’s sweet, it’s more fun to believe she’s part of Bruno’s core crew, and he gave her the nickname “Mary-Kay” because she looks like the woman who sold his mom lipstick in the 80s.
