Rita Moreno, the Queen of the SAGs!

A few piles of ash were found on the floor of The Shrine Auditorium after the SAG Awards last night, and I hope the clean-up crew dumped ’em in the trash where they belong! Those pile of ashes were the people who were hit by lightning by God after not standing for legendary Puerto Rican EGOT angel Rita Moreno when she shimmied onto the stage to present Morgan Freeman with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Rita got the SAG Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014, and Morgan Freeman, who she was in The Electric Company with, presented her with her own green serial killer mask award. So she returned the favor last night, and Morgan probably hoped that she didn’t, because she easily snatched away the spotlight just by being Rita Moreno!!! (Or “guest” as the uneducated minion of Satan from The New York Times called her at the Golden Globes. Or orthe woman who presented the SAG Lifetime Achievement Award” as the uneducated minion of Satan from Hello Giggles called her last night.)

While presenting 80-year-old Morgan Freeman with his award, ageless (she’s 86, technically) Rita Moreno only said nice things and was kind enough not to mention that rumor about him marrying his late step-granddaughter. But Rita did get half-abuelita on Morgan by telling him to lift his cap (at around the 9:16 mark) so that the audience could see his face. I say “half-abuelita,” because “full-abuelita” would be Rita throwing him a death glare as she slowly reached for her whoopin’ shoe until Morgan got the hint and took off his cap.

If you watched until the end, then you saw Morgan Freeman saying that the SAG trophy (not the one he got last night, but the one everybody else gets) shouldn’t be a dude with a bulge and should be gender-neutral. While I agree with Morgan Freeman that the SAG trophy needs a makeover, I don’t agree that it should be gender-neutral. The trophy should be of Rita Moreno doing the hand on hips pose, of course!
