A Woman Has Accused T.J. Miller Of Being Physically Abusive

Part-time asshole T.J. Miller has been accused by a woman known only as Sarah of sexually abusing and punching her in college. But if you ask T.J. Miller and his wife, none of it is true, and Sarah’s a scheming, jealous hater.

Sarah tells The Daily Beast that she met T.J. at George Washington University in the early 2000s after becoming active in an improv comedy troupe. Sarah claims that a few months into a relationship with T.J., he allegedly shook her violently and punched her in the mouth while they were fooling around. When she woke up the next morning with a fractured tooth and bloody lip, T.J. allegedly tried to convince her it was the result of falling down drunk.

The second incident occurred after a party, in which they began having consensual sex that allegedly turned non-consensual and violent. Sarah claims T.J. began choking her loud enough that her housemates knocked on the door to see if she was okay. Sarah says she told them she wasn’t sure. She returned to T.J., who she claims raped her and at one time used a beer bottle. After T.J. left the next morning at 5, her housemates allegedly saw Sarah looking pretty beat up with some bruising. One housemate offered to take her to the police, others to the hospital (she declined). Sarah and T.J. broke up shortly after.

A year later, Sarah got the courage to report the incidents to George Washington University’s student court. The trial lasted a few weeks, until the university told her that the issue had been resolved.

Five former George Washington students, who went to school with o Sarah, confirmed the details of her stories. One former housemate mentions she “had to Google him” to see who this famous T.J. was that they were talking about. What, you’re not familiar with the voice star of The Emoji Movie?

On the other side, four of T.J.’s friends from George Washington spoke to The Daily Beast, describing him as a great guy who is “particularly respectful” towards women, and that he loves his wife “very, very much.

T.J. Miller and his wife Kate Miller issued a joint statement. The gist of which is essentially that they’re the victims of a jilted, jealous woman hell-bent on destroying their lives.

“We met this woman over a decade ago while studying together in college, she attempted to break us up back then by plotting for over a year before making contradictory claims and accusations. She attempted to discredit both of our voices and use us against one another by trying to portray Kate to be a continuous abuse victim of T.J. (further efforts to hurt the two of us). She was asked to leave our university comedy group because of worrisome and disturbing behavior, which angered her immensely, she then became fixated on our relationship, and began telling people around campus ‘I’m going to destroy them‘ & ‘I’m going to ruin him.’

We are confident that a full consideration of accounts from and since that time will shed light and clarity on the true nature of not only this person’s character, and also on the real facts of the matter.

We stand together in stating this is nothing more than an unfortunate resurgence of her lies designed to wreak havoc on two happily married people in the public eye.

She began again to circulate rumors online once our relationship became public.

Sadly she is now using the current climate to bandwagon and launch these false accusations again. It is unfortunate that she is choosing this route as it undermines the important movement to make women feel safe coming forward about legitimate claims against real known predators.

We stand together and will not allow this person to take advantage of a serious movement toward gender equality by allowing her to use this moment to muddy the water with an unrelated personal agenda. We feel we all have an obligation now more than ever to prevent people from using reporters to spin lies into headlines, and focus instead on what is real.

We both champion and continue to stand up for people everywhere who have truly suffered injustice seeking to have justice brought into their lives.”

The only problem is that The Daily Beast also spoke to people in the comedy world. And apparently T.J. has an alleged reputation for not being the greatest guy. Four sources in the Los Angeles and Chicago comedy world tell The Daily Beast that they are aware T.J. Miller has privately made jokes about committing physical violence on a woman in college. Several female performers and comedy professionals tell The Daily Beast that they have declined to work with him based solely on his rumored history of abusive behavior.

Now there’s one thing I’m certain about here. If you really want to prove you’re all about respecting women, maaaaaaybe don’t make jokes about punching them in the face? I could be wrong, but I don’t recall Charna Halpern covering the fine art of female face-punching jokes in Truth in Comedy.
