Russell Simmons Tried It With The #NotMe Movement, As An NYPD Investigation Begins

In one of the mostly spectacularly tone deaf moves I’ve seen in #thesetryingtimes, Russell Simmons has started his own #movement on Instagram in an effort to express his innocence and defend himself against multiple allegations of sexual assault. Are you ready for the dawn of #NotMe?

Move over ladies, you’ve had your moment!

As you can imagine, #NotMe has rubbed some people the wrong way. Sure, Russell says he’s not trying to diminish the #MeToo movement but maybe read the room, buddy. Former America’s Next Top Model judge Kelly Cutrone was so angered by the move she was inspired to step forward with her own story about the time Russell tried to rape her in 1991. #oops. Page Six Reports:

[Kelly] says she was incensed on Thursday to learn that Simmons was trying to start a #NotMe movement to deny sexual assault accusations that are made as part of the #MeToo movement. She said, “The #NotMe thing? I’m going to do a #YeahYou. F–k you.”

Kelly said that she and Russell were walking to a party together and he said he needed to stop by a friend’s house (he had earlier invited her to his apartment but she declined). When they got in the door (she suspects it was actually his apartment after all) he pushed her to the ground and tried to take her clothes off. She kicked and screamed to fight him off and threatened to have him murdered (AND to call Page Six on his ass!) before she was able to escape the apartment.

Of Simmons — an avid yogi — she added, “I hope he chokes on his om pendant.”

I live.

According to TMZ, Russell has also taken a lie detector test in order to establish his innocence in the rape allegation made against him by model Keri Claussen Khalighi which, according to his lawyers, he “passed with flying colors”. It’s fun to devise and administer your own lie detector test! Russell says he’s willing to take the test four more times, once for each allegation against him but since that number keeps changing, he’s gonna be in that chair for a minute.

It’s unlikely that the NYPD will accept his #nolie credits because TMZ is also reporting that they’ve just launched an investigation into “at least 7 claims of sexual misconduct” against Russell dating back as far as the early 1980’s. #nicetry #yourescrewed.
