Why yes, I did try to find the creepiest picture possible of Dustin Hoffman in a pervert-looking trench coat for this story.
Here’s some news that will no doubt have John Oliver holding a Tootsie DVD to his ear, like “Sorry, what was that you said about having incredible respect for women?” Yesterday Variety published the stories of three more women who claim to have been sexually harassed and assaulted in the 80s by Dustin Hoffman.
Cori Thomas was a schoolmate of Dustin’s daughter Karina at the United Nations International School in New York City. In 1980, a 16-yer-old Cori spent a Sunday afternoon with Karina and Dustin. Cori was supposed to meet her parents at a restaurant after dinner, but Dustin left a note for them saying they had gone back to his hotel and to pick Cori up here. At the hotel, Dustin allegedly sent Karina home to her mother’s house (they were in the midst of getting divorced at the time). After taking a shower, Dustin – who was 43 at the time – allegedly came out in a towel, which he allegedly dropped, exposing his penis. Dustin put on a robe and allegedly asked Cori for a foot massage. Jesus, these alleged creeps in bathrobes with their damn foot rubs, I swear.
As she massaged his feet (she says she didn’t know she could have said no), he allegedly repeatedly asked her if she wanted to see him naked. Eventually Cori was saved when the phone rang to inform Dustin that Cori’s parents were downstairs.
A woman named Melissa Kester has a story that involves Dustin during the making of the 1987 film Ishtar. Melissa was dating a guy who was working on music for the film, so Melissa accompanied him to the studio on days when Dustin was there. On her third visit, Dustin asked for Melissa to join him in the sound booth. Dustin allegedly grabbed Melissa in a “flirtatious” way and put his arms around her. Then he allegedly put his hands into her pants and assaulted her. After it happened, Melissa says she avoided Dustin, despite him allegedly calling her repeatedly on the phone.
Variety spoke with another women (she chose to remain anonymous) who also claims to have been allegedly sexually assaulted by Dustin during production on Ishtar. The anonymous woman – who was 22 at the time – claims that after a wrap party, Dustin allegedly put his hand up her skirt in the back of a station wagon full of people. She says she felt powerless to say anything, because “he’s Dustin Hoffman.” She claims he later instructed her to come to his apartment, which she did, where they had sex. He was married to his current wife Lisa Hoffman at the time.
The women who spoke to Variety all claimed to have told people close to them about what had allegedly happened. Variety was able to confirm their stories. Dustin Hoffman couldn’t be reached by Variety for comment. Dustin’s attorney Mark A. Neubauer told Variety that the allegations by the three women were nothing but “defamatory falsehoods.”
Dustin continues to deny any and every sexual assault and harassment allegation made against him, brushing them off as defamatory statements. But these allegations are awful. Ishtar awful, if you will. Actually, that’s not fair. If these allegations are true, then it’s safe to say that the actual film itself is absolutely no longer the worst thing that came out of making Ishtar.
