Matt Lauer Is Fighting To Save His Marriage
It’s a terrible movie but I have a real soft spot for 1994’s It’s Pat! There’s one scene in which Pat is having a pity party and screams to their spouse Chris, “Feel sorrier for me!!!!”. I say that all the time and now disgraced perv Matt Lauer is joining in on the refrain. You see, his marriage to Dutch model Annette Roque is in trouble and “a source” (Matt with voice modulation thingy?) really wants you to know how sad that makes him.
According to People, Matt is “fighting to save his marriage” even though it’s been reported to be on the rocks since way before the allegations against him were revealed. But he needs the sympathy now in his hour of need, please and thank you.
People reports:
In the wake of his shocking firing from the Today show at the end of November, Lauer, 59, and Roque, who have been married for 19 years and share three children together — sons Jack, 16, and Thijs, 11, and daughter Romy, 14 — are still under one roof and together but are no longer wearing their wedding rings.
People says Annette is so mad at Matt that she took off her ring and asked that Matt do the same.
“The kids are noticing this, but they’re being very open about this and explaining everything,” the insider adds.
Sources say that they are working really hard to hold it together for the kids’ sake, which everybody who’s ever had parents who hate each other can agree, is a great way to raise children. Back in 2006 Annette actually did file for divorce on the grounds of “cruel and inhumane acts” and “extreme anger and hostility” but took it back after three weeks. I guess she was smartly holding out until he did something really unseemly. Public humiliation and possible criminal sexual harassment charges probably have a bigger payout than garden variety assholery.
Now the couple are “taking it day by day” and “no long-term decisions have been made” so maybe she’s waiting for him to actually murder somebody before pulling the plug? The kids in the meantime have a rotation in place to monitor mom and dad’s ring fingers for clues about their future.
