Sarah Paulson Says She Was Told To Hide Her Relationship With Holland Taylor

Two years ago, 74-year-old Holland Taylor came out as a lesbian and admitted she was in a relationship with someone way younger than herself. The younger woman turned out to be 42-year-old Sarah Paulson. Holland Taylor and Sarah Paulson became the second most famous ginger & blonde lesbian couple (right under Cynthia Nixon and Rojo Caliente). But according to Sarah Paulson, their relationship was almost a (cue up the Atlantic Starr) secret lovers situation.

Sarah spoke to Net-a-Porter’s The Edit (via People) about her and Holland’s relationship, saying that she was given some messy advice early on. Sarah says she was warned by some people to keep it a secret, because it might negatively impact her career. Sarah’s career is obviously doing fine; in the time since she went public with Holland Taylor, she’s won many awards, like an Emmy award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story. And she continues to work. Whoever told Sarah to hush up about Holland probably feels like an idiot now. Or maybe they’re still cluelessly concerned for her. “I don’t know Sarah. Being so open might kill your chances of gaining fans in the lucrative career-boosting intolerant grandparents demographic.”

Speaking of winning that Emmy, when Sarah won, she declared “I love you” to Holland during her acceptance speech. Sarah says she was a little apprehensive about being so public, but was quickly like, “Eh, whatever.”

“It occurred to me, should I not do that? And then I thought, why would I not? The fact I’m having this thought is wrong. But I had a moment of societal concern; wondering if, maybe, people who didn’t know that about me would be like, wait, what? But then, you know, I did it anyway.”

Although Sarah does add that she finds it weird that anyone cares about her and Holland’s relationship at all.

“My life choices are, um, unconventional. I’m with a much older person, and people find that totally fascinating and odd, and, to me, it’s the least interesting thing about me.”

Dating Holland Taylor is the least interesting thing about her? I would seriously like to know what Sarah’s list of interesting personal facts contains. Because dating someone 32 years older than you is seriously interesting. Hell, just hearing that you get to date the woman who played Dean McMann on Saved by the Bell: The College Years is enough to keep me interested.
