Mattel’s Magical Musical Thing!

Those of you who regularly go to nap central, the symphony, know what that instrument above is since every self-respecting orchestra has a Magical Musical Thing section. But for those of you who are so not musical, Mattel’s Magical Musical Thing was an electronic musical toy that made its debut in the late-70s and stuck around through the 80s. The Magical Musical Thing was what came out of the poon of a keyboard nine months after it met an electric guitar in a bar and made magical musical love with it. It was a keyboard shaped like a guitar neck and you could play songs on it using a songbook. In the commercial from 1979, a little ginger girl (who would’ve easily gotten the role of Harriet in Small Wonder if she was born later) and a little ginger boy have a Magical Musical Thing-off. The little girl says, “TOP THAT!“, so now we know where Teen Witch got it from.

I was going to say that the only time I’ll ever go to the symphony again is if the concert includes a Magical Musical Thing, an Echo Mini Piano and a recorder, but I love my ears too much to wish death upon them.
