Jennifer Hudson Has Split From David Otunga, And It’s Very Messy

Jennifer Hudson and former professional wrestler David Otunga (aka Punk from I Love New York) have been together for so long and they’re so quiet about their relationship, I sort of forgot they were together. Well, they’re not together anymore. As you’re probably already guessed, it’s not the kind of split that involved a statement from her publicist about JHud and David remaining best friends.

Jennifer and David have been together since 2007, engaged since 2008, and they share an 8-year-old son David Otunga Jr. TMZ reported last night that they called it quits and she was granted a restraining order against him on Thursday.

In the order of protection, Jennifer claims David has exhibited “aggressive, threatening and harassing behavior” toward her, and that she’s “living in fear of further action David might take.” The restraining order was granted after an alleged situation involving Jennifer and David Jr. at a recording studio in Chicago on Wednesday. David Sr. asked David Jr. to record his mom in the studio to prove his suspicion that she’s dating a producer. When they got home, David Sr. allegedly grabbed Jennifer by the hand and pushed her into the master bedroom. David Jr., a makeup artist, and an assistant allegedly witnessed the altercation.

Jennifer also claims in her restraining order that David Sr. often left a gun out on the kitchen counter with the sole purpose of intimidating her. Jennifer’s mother and brother were found shot to death in their home in 2008.

A rep for Jennifer explained to People why Jennifer needed a restraining order, saying she’s afraid of 6’3″, 240-lb David, and that she was only acting “in the best interest of their son.” Her rep adds that Jennifer and David were in the process of ending their relationship over the past several months. David’s lawyer responded, saying that Jennifer only got a restraining order because she gave an “award winning performance” in court and that she was afraid of losing custody of their son. He also flat-out calls her a liar.

“Mr. Otunga has never abused or harassed Ms. Hudson or their son, and it is unfortunate, especially in today’s climate, that she would feel the need to make these false allegations against him. Mr. Otunga looks forward to his day in court and in being awarded the residential care of the parties’ only child.”

It gets worse. TMZ says that Jennifer called the police to her Chicago-area home last night to remove David. Sources say Jennifer got the restraining order without David’s knowledge, and when she demanded he leave the home, he pulled an Effie White and said he wasn’t going. David is the primary caregiver of David Jr., and they’ve allegedly been trying to work out a custody agreement. Both want primary custody, and apparently no one is budging on that.

Normally when I hear about a messy situation involving a called-off engagement, I excitedly hope to read that the engagement ring was dramatically pulled off the finger and whipped and the fiancé, like “AND TAKE THIS WITH YOU.” But not in this case. There are already too many messy layers involving lawyers and police, and the last thing this situation needs is an assault with a diamond ring charge.
