James Packer Says Dating Mariah Carey Was A Mistake For Them Both

It was a good thing I was sitting down when news first broke that James Packer and Mariah Carey had called their engagement off, because I was shocked he’d let the love affair of our time die. Now I’m shocked all over gain, because James Packer is out there saying that he and Mimi weren’t really right for each other.

The Weekend Australian (via News.com.au) sat down with James, who said he was not in a good place when he was with Mariah. Hear that? It’s the sound of Mimi loudly screaming at her assistants to call her lawyers, because she now wants $100 million from James instead of a paltry $50 million.

James said he was up to his eyeballs in debt and losing more from a deal with Mimi’s BFF Brett Ratner:

He says when he met Carey in 2015 he was in billions of dollars worth of debt after borrowing big to provide sister Gretel with some of the money left in their father Kerry Packer’s estate. He was also losing money on his Hollywood venture, RatPac, with friend Brett Ratner.

“I was at a low point in my personal life. Documenting the negotiations with my sister was taking longer than expected. Brett Ratner put Mariah and me together. She was kind, exciting and fun. Mariah is a woman of substance. She is very bright. But it was a mistake for her and a mistake for me.”

So what I’m hearing is James was living his own personal brand of Glitter and he’s out to get his Emancipation Of Mimi. Because James is still one rich motherfucker, cash is a big part of life, which is why he seems more upset by the whole Brett ordeal. Brett was supposed to pick money-making films for a business partnership with James, which he didn’t do. And that cost James serious money.

James was also asked about the rumor that Mariah kept her $10 million engagement ring from him and demanded a $50 million settlement when they split. James chose not to comment on that, which basically is another way of saying, “Why didn’t I just get her something on clearance at Kay Jewelers?
