Glitter from Kidd Video!

If some uneducated dumbling ever asks you, “What were the 80s like?“, try not to immediately banish their uncultured and idiotic ass from your presence in disgust. I know it’ll be hard, but try. Instead, educate the poor soul by showing them a short highly educational video that sort of kind of sums up the 1980s. Show them the intro to Kidd Video.

Kidd Video was a Saturday morning cartoon about a teen rock band who was kidnapped through a mirror in the garage by a maniacal ball of sleaziness named Master Blaster (aka Harvey Weinstein’s idol). Master Blaster brought the band to the cartoon world of The Flipside as his musical slaves. But before they could become the slaves of Master Blaster (Side note: The creators of this beautiful mess were not right for giving a character a name that sounds like slang for a cum shot brought on by fapping), they were freed by today’s HSOTD: Glitter!

Glitter was like something queefed up by the 80s. I mean, her name was Glitter, she was a fairy, she worked a Pat Benatar ‘do and she was always ready for a jazzercise class. In each episode, Kidd Video and his band (also named Kidd Video, what a narcissist he was) used their music to paralyze their enemies while trying to get back to the real world. Kidd Video would perform a popular song from the time in each episode, and episodes ended with a live-action music video from the band.

This whole mess of a show may sound like glitter-covered crack for us children of the 90s, but it didn’t last long. It was around for only 2 seasons, but later became a cult classic. And I loved Kidd Video, because it was the only time I really got to watch music videos since we didn’t have MTV.

And after watching that intro and episode today, it’s clear what Kidd Video was really about. It was a dark drama about a bunch of teenagers who spent their band rehearsal time getting high on the wrong kind of shit in the garage.
