Jennifer Lopez Ponied Up $1 Million For Hurricane Relief

Puerto Rico still doesn’t have power after being hit by Hurricane Irma. It’s a tragedy, but luckily people are coming together with money and…well, right now money is the most helpful option. Jennifer Lopez may be Jenny from The Block, but she recently became Jenny at The Bank by making a huge donation.

On Friday, JLo uploaded a video to Instagram urging people to donate to the relief efforts of United for Puerto Rico.

I took one look at the gold ceiling and thought, “Okay JLo, if you’re going to record a donation video from inside such a tacky palace of opulence, you better make with some money, honey.” The cynical asshole in me feels properly shut up, because People magazine says that JLo donated $1 million for Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.

She made the announcement yesterday at a live-streamed press conference with New York governor Andrew Cuomo. Not only has JLo come up with some cash, she and Alex Rodriguez were working their entertainment and professional sports connections for donations. According to JLo, the New York Yankees and MLB have made “significant” aid contributions, and she’s working with Mark Cuban and Dallas Mavericks’ JJ Barea to send two airplanes filled with supplies and generators to San Juan. She also says that she and her ex-husband Marc Anthony are working together on additional relief efforts.

A source tells People that JLo and A-Rod are personally making every outreach call, which is refreshing surprise considering we’re dealing with two people rich and famous enough to hire someone to flush their toilets for them.

JLo says that everyone she has called has asked what they could do, and nobody has said no to a donation. In that case, this might be the perfect opportunity for JLo to call up Mariah Carey and ask for a donation. Because what kind of evil soul would send a celebrity donation solicitation to voicemail? Not only will JLo get some money for Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, but it will come with the added satisfaction of proving once and for all that Mariah definitely knows her.
