Leah Remini Won An Emmy For Her Scientology Show
A bunch of people won Creative Arts Emmys this weekend. Special shout outs to my pretend BFF RuPaul on his second (!!!) win, my pretend hometown homescratch W. Kamau Bell, and the only Press Secretary I acknowledge, Melissa McCarthy, for guest actress on SNL. Other big winners included HBO and Netflix for a gang on shows, drama queen Ryan Murphy, and those meddling kids of Stranger Things.
But the most delicious win goes to Leah Remini, who continues to be the stiletto fingernail in the side of the Church of Scientology. And if Leah’s win is any indication, she’s not going to stop jabbing them with it anytime soon.
On Saturday, Leah won her first ever Emmy for her A&E reality show Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath (for Best Information Series or Special). During her acceptance speech, she thanked her mom, as might be expected, but the Huffington Post says she also added a dig at the organization that made it all possible:
“Mom, thank you. You are officially forgiven for getting us into a cult,” the former King of Queens star quipped in accepting the Emmy, according to Deadline. Her mother was in the audience to celebrate her daughter’s win, the media outlet reported.
Oh, how I wish the Creative Arts Emmys had a big “L Ron. Hubbard Cam” that would have cut to all the Scientologists sitting in the audience for their reaction. I mean, I guess a lot of them probably pulled an Elisabeth Moss and slipped out beforehand, making a beeline to the Absolute Interior Delusions Lounge to untuck and relax with a OT-tini (that’s made with Gin, Operating Thetans, and a twist, served in a tin can).
Leah went on to thank the “brave ones” who have appeared on her show and shared their fucked-up stories about how they were and are still being treated by the church. She also criticized the organization for its continual denial of any wrongdoing. Basically, Leah’s putting all y’all Hubbard Suckas on blast, and she’s not going to stop until Tom Cruise admits to his real height.
