Kathy Griffin And Anderson Cooper Are Officially EX-BFFs
Along with civil rights, rational discourse, and everybody’s ability to get through the night without waking up covered in flop sweat, chalk up the friendship between Kathy Griffin and Anderson Cooper as yet another thing ruined by Donald J. Trump. In a recent interview with The Cut, Kathy confirms that her long friendship with Coop is officially over.
Back in July, Anderson went on Watch What Happens Live and said that, despite his rejection of Kathy’s bloody head stunt, the two were still friends. Only now Kathy is saying Anderson was full of shit and she’s had it with his fake ass.
Griffin’s best-known celebrity friendship, going back 17 years, is with CNN anchor Anderson Cooper. But after TMZ published the photo, Cooper came under tremendous pressure to repudiate it. Without reaching out to Griffin, he tweeted the same night: “For the record, I am appalled by the photo shoot Kathy Griffin took part in. It is clearly disgusting and completely inappropriate.” Griffin acknowledges that Cooper was in an untenable position, but she feels that their long friendship afforded her a call or text message beforehand.
I guess that after years of awkward touching (Kathy) and girlish giggling (Anderson), a bitch couldn’t even get a heads-up before being publicly denounced. What was worse, according to Kathy, is that many of her other CNN colleagues reached out to her with private offers of support and to see how she was doing. But she didn’t hear one peep from Anderson until August 10. That’s after the WWHL episode where he gave her the classic kiss-off “I wish her the best.” Ya ghosted ya girl, Coop. Not cool.
The fact that Cooper was telling people publicly they were friends, while not checking in with her, hurt Griffin deeply. When he finally reached out to her in a series of text messages, she told him their friendship was over.
You was too slow, Anderson. You just had to wait before reaching out to ya boo, and it’s too late now. Kathy’s keeping it moving, though. She says that she still gets death threats (and, I kid you not, text messages from next-door-neighbor Kim Kardashian checking in on her!), and has lost a lot of industry friends over the incident. But she’s still gonna tour and tell Trump jokes and fight for First Amendment issues. It sounds like as far as she’s concerned, Anderson can go right ahead and lose her number.
