George And Amal Clooney Threaten To Sue A French Tabloid For Publishing Pics Of Their Twins

George and Amal Clooney’s twin babies, Ella and Alexander, are just shy of two months old. And until this morning, no one outside of George, Amal, family, friends, and their part-time nannies have seen what Ella and Alexander look like. I could imagine what they looked like: small unbreaded chicken nuggets, maybe. Then a French tabloid called Voici went ahead and solved the mystery by publishing the first blurry shots of the Clooney babies on the cover of their latest issue. George and Amal are extremely pissed about that.

Here’s the magazine cover in question. According to Page Six, the pictures were taken while George and Amal were on vacation at Lake Como in Italy.

To the best of my busted public school Quebec French knowledge, that caption basically says that seeing George looking like a lifeguard is priceless. That may be priceless, but something tells me Voici is about to find themselves in some very expensive legal bills very soon. George released a statement about Voici’s pictures, and they’re coming after them, the photographers, everyone!

via The Hollywood Reporter:

“Over the last week photographers from Voici magazine scaled our fence, climbed our tree and illegally took pictures of our infants inside our home. Make no mistake the photographers, the agency and the magazine will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. The safety of our children demands it.”

TMZ says that if George is telling the truth about how those pics were obtained, he’s got a good case. Voici is a French magazine. Under French law, public figures like George can only be photographed while “going about their public lives” and only for “journalistic purposes.” In Italy, where the pics were taken, law states that paps can’t photograph things in a private residence, and they definitely can’t snap pictures of people or things that appear to be obscured by anything. Hanging out in the privacy of his own backyard doesn’t exactly fit that description. Not to mention those pics look like they were taken from Voici’s office in France with a lens borrowed from the Google Maps headquarters.

You know George and Amal are going to fight Voici hard. Those photographers took away the most precious gift from George and Amal. Privacy? Well sure. But more importantly they stole the once-in-a-lifetime chance to debut their babies in the grand Clooney tradition, aka a pre-planned pap stroll. You will pay for this, Voici!
