Some of the Madonna memorabilia available for auction next week include the sunglasses she wore in the Lucky Star video, pictures of Madonna rolling around on the floor with a stripper at a bachelorette party, a hair brush with her hair still in it and a pair of “personally worn panties”. However, one item in particular has got people filling their ice trays in preparation for a big ole pitcher of that sweet, sweet tea: A never before seen letter (no not that letter) penned by Madonna some time in the early 90’s in which she calls both Whitney Houston and Sharon Stone “horribly mediocre”.
The letter is offered by Darlene Lutz, Madonna’s former art dealer who was sued by the singer in 2005 for breach of contract. In the letter, written to actor John Enos, Madonna says:
I have made so many people angry that I’m being punished and basically made to be quiet and sit in a corner, whole other less interesting and exciting people are reaping the benefits of the roads I’ve paved.
Oh, reeeealy, Madge? Do go on!
It’s so unequivocally frustrating to read that Whitney Houston has the music career I wish I had and Sharon Stone has the film career I’ll never have. Not because I want to be these women because I’d rather die, but they’re so horribly mediocre and they’re always being held up as paragons of virtue and some sort of measuring stick to humiliate me.
Oh, snap! Yes she did. According to News.com.au, early 90’s Madonna was salty as hell about the backlash she received after releasing 1992’s Sex book and Erotic album.
Coming for Sharon Stone is one thing, but for her to come for Whitney? You must be out your god-damned mind! Madonna knows she was wrong for that. Whitney Houston was a lot of things, but mediocre was never one of them. That insult really takes some brass balls to attempt (and yes, we know Madonna has them, several pairs). Whitney Houston is in heaven right this very moment throwing shade all over this situation. In fact, I think she got in her time machine in the sky and retroactively handled this.
Dear @madonna, First, I think it’s absurd that anyone is publishing your private letters. Therefore; I publish publicly. Know that I am your friend. I have wished to be a rock star in some private moments… have felt as mediocre as you described. We know, as only those who have survived so long that owning our own mediocrity is the only way to own our own strengths; to become all that we both have become. I love and adore you; won’t be pitted against you by any invasion of our personal journeys. Sharon
It was nice Sharon stood up for her, and that she made the right choice, since you never want to feud with Madge.
Also, here’s video of Madonna confessing her shookdedness over Whitney’s alleged mediocrity.
This was a dream you say? Sure, Madonna. We believe you!
