Because Jaws is everyone’s favorite Fourth of July feel-good movie, I was already planning on make Amity Island’s welcome queen today’s HSOTD. But well, then the New Jersey buffoon reincarnation of Marie Antoinette known as Chris Christie (only his ass is saying, “Let ME eat cake!”) just had to get caught warming his governor tits on the beach he closed to the public and a meme was born. A meme that the Amity Island billboard girl was dragged into it since everyone compared Chris Christie to the mayor from Jaws. Poor Amity Island chick. First, she gets forever bonded to a shark massacre, and then she gets forever bonded to Chris Christie’s eight layer FUPA.
There’s not much information about Amity Island’s billboard. I don’t know who is the masterpiece artiste responsible for such an iconic piece of American art. I also don’t know who the girl in the orange bikini is, but she did always give me young Robin Byrd with a tiny touch of Cheryl Tiegs. Amity Island’s billboard girl plays a highly pivotal role in Jaws. At the beginning, she smiles while welcoming tourists to the fake Amity Island (and to their death), and later that incompetent, greedy Mayor Vaughn flips out when she’s vandalized and he shows that he cares more about that than the Great White killing machine in the water. I mean, I don’t totally blame him since defacing the Amity Island billboard girl is worse than defacing the Mona Lisa!
As for where the Amity Island billboard is today. I don’t know. Every Jaws ride at every Universal Studios around the world has a cheap ass replica of the billboard and none of them come close to matching the magnificence of the original. I’m guessing the original is being protected by armed guards in the basement of the Smithsonian so that no brats ever vandalize it again.
