Michelle Rodriguez Threatens To Quit The Next “Fast And The Furious” Unless They Do Better For Women

The eighth Fast and the Furious movie was released on Amazon Video and iTunes yesterday, and Michelle Rodriguez celebrated the release by threatening to quit the franchise over social media. The drama never stops with this franchise. First we endure months of (maybe fake) back and forth scratching from The Rock and Vin Diesel. Now we’re getting a possible fight between Letty and the producers. What’s next? The cars of FatF starting beef with the cars from Pixar’s Cars?

According to Michelle, who has co-starred in five FatF films, she wants the next Fast and the Furious to “show some love” to the women or else she “might have to say goodbye.” There are a few recurring female characters in the FatF universe and Charlize Theron was the main villain in the last one, but for the most part they’re secondary to spinning wheels, explosions, and testosterone-pumped grunting.

This isn’t the first time Michelle has complained about the lack of female activity in the FatF films. She previously expressed her concerns to Entertainment Weekly:

“I’ve been making movies with Jordana, who plays the sister of Dom Toretto, for 16 years and I can count on one hand how many lines I’ve had to her. I think that’s pathetic and it’s lack of creativity…It does weigh heavy on my head – especially in the male-dominated environment that I work in. At the end of the day, the only leverage I have as an individual is my participation.”

Fast and the Furious fans probably wouldn’t really care what gender is driving the cars, just as long as they’re still jumping bridges and shit. But I highly doubt Vin Diesel will allow it. Well, he might, but his ego won’t. He’ll show up the first day on set in a wig and heels demanding to be put on the top of the call sheet. “Oh hi gals, it’s me – Dominic’s long-lost twin sister, Dom…uh…inatrix? Sure, that works. Now who’s ready to race me?
