Halsey Hates Iggy Azalea

Azealia Banks has apparently put away the shank she waved in Iggy Azalea’s direction for years, and those two wrecks may have finally trashed their overcooked beef and made up. But as Azealia (temporarily) scratches Iggy’s name off of a list of enemies to cast a black magic spell on, Halsey has stood up and declared to the world that along with good taste and nice wigs, she wants nothing to do with Iggy Azalea.

The low-budget reboot of Pink talked to Peter Robinson of The Guardian about her new album, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, and she was asked about working with Quavo, who is a member of the hip-hop group Migos. When Katy Perry released Bon Appétit with Migos, Quavo’s gay-hating comments (and shit apology) about a gay rapper coming out made the rounds again. Halsey’s album also has a lesbian duet with one of the Fifth Harmonies on it, so she was asked why she worked with Quavo. Halsey, who is bi, spewed out a confusing dingle of defense for Quavo and said that she doesn’t think he hates gays and she can’t control everyone’s thoughts.

“I think he’s misunderstood. Just because I choose to be a socially conscious artist, and I’m pretty good at it, that doesn’t mean every artist is going to be equipped to be politically correct. I don’t think he’s inherently homophobic, I think he’s in a tough place of trying to explain what he means. I agree his apology was bullshit but I can’t police everybody.”

Halsey got even more confusing while trying to explain herself to pissed off fans on Twitter. Halsey didn’t know about the gay-hating shit nuggets that came out of Quavo’s mouth when they worked together. They aren’t friends and she doesn’t want to be friends with him. And they’ve never spoken a word to each other. But yet she defends him in an interview? Halsey’s reasoning is as confusing as her wig choices.

Peter pointed out that while she can’t police what people say, she can choose who she wants on her album. Halsey took that opportunity to pull away from the Quavo mess and distract Peter by shitting all over Iggy. Halsey, who is biracial, says that you will never hear Iggy’s rap warbling on one of her songs, because she doesn’t work with cultural appropriating pieces of dumb trash! And yes, this is coming from someone who is riding on Machine Gun Kelly.

“Yes, I can and there’s a lot of people I wouldn’t put on my record. Iggy Azalea: absolutely not. She had a complete disregard for black culture. Fucking moron. I watched her career dissolve and it fascinated me.”

In other interviews, Halsey also hated on Demi Lovato and Katy Perry for being “straight girls” who sing about hooking up with other chicks, and on Brit Brit Spears for not writing her own songs. So all of the stans (does Iggy still have those?) are coming after Halsey. Personally, I don’t care who Halsey puts on her albums since I’m never going to hear it anyway, but I do think dissing the state of Iggy’s career was a bad move. Halsey is going to feel really awkward in two years when she’s booked to open for Iggy in Walmart’s Parking Lot Concert Series.
