Jesse Williams Is In The Middle Of A Messy Custody Battle

June 21, 2017 / Posted by:

Jesse Williams’ split from his non-famous wife of almost five years (and partner for more than ten) Aryn Drake-Lee started messy and it’s staying messy. Jesse was rumored to have ended his marriage, which began when Jesse was still a struggling actor, by going full Hollywood and hooking up with Minka Kelly (a rumor he tried to brush off with little success). E! News says we’ve entered the custody battle part of this textbook messy Hollywood breakup.

Jesse specified in divorce papers that he doesn’t want to pay Aryn any spousal support, and that he wants joint custody of their children, 3-year-old Sadie and 20-month-old Maceo. It sounds like they might have tried to work out a custody agreement on their own, but couldn’t agree. Jesse recently filed court documents accusing Aryn of being stingy with the time he’s given with their kids. He claims his visits are “few“, and that Aryn limits their time to about two and a half hours. He also claims she always refuses his requests for the kids to sleep over at his house and never gives a reason for why. All of this is preventing Jesse from being the “an active, involved, hands-on dad” he has been for his kids. He has requested a court order for a joint physical custody parenting plan.

Aryn’s lawyer responded by releasing a statement slapping at Jesse for making their drama public.

“Protecting the privacy and well-being of their children is of paramount importance to Aryn Drake-Lee Williams. It is unfortunate that Mr. Williams has chosen to draw public attention to this difficult time and transition for their family. Aryn is solely interested in the best interests of their children, supporting a healthy relationship with both parents, and protecting the children’s privacy. Therefore, she will not comment any further on Mr. Williams’ unilateral and unfortunate public allegations.”

Meanwhile, a source says that Jesse and Aryn aren’t fighting at all and are totally working it out like mature adults.

“They are working together on this custody arrangement and staying as civil with each other as they can. They just want it to be seamless. They both want joint custody, so no fighting is involved whatsoever.”

This is all a little similar to Jesse’s work too. On Grey’s (spoiler alert), Jesse’s character just got divorced at the same time his ex-wife became pregnant for the second time with his kid, which means there may be a custody situation between them. Is Shonda Rhimes secretly writing Jesse’s life or what? I wouldn’t be surprised if Shonda has that kind of power.
