Chris Cornell’s Wife Doesn’t Think That He Meant To Take His Own Life

Shortly after, the world found out that Chris Cornell joined the ultimate grunge band in the sky with Kurt Cobain, Scott Weiland and Layne Staley, the medical examiner ruled his death a suicide and said that he hung himself. Chris’ wife Vicky Karayiannis and his family don’t believe that he wanted to end his life and are waiting to see what the toxicology results show.

Soundgarden played a show in Detroit on the night of Chris’ death, and he told the crowd about playing in the next city. They were supposed to perform in Columbus, Ohio tonight. Someone who was at Soundgarden’s show in Detroit said that something was really off with Chris. He supposedly staggered across the stage all weak-like and missed a few lyrics. He didn’t seem comfortable and walked off the stage for a minute at one point. Vicky said in a statement she released this morning that he loved his family and they were making plans to take a vacation during the Memorial Day weekend. Vicky did talk to Chris after Wednesday night’s show and he didn’t seem like himself. He told her he may have taken some extra Ativan. That made her nervous.

“When we spoke after the show, I noticed he was slurring his words; he was different. When he told me he may have taken an extra Ativan or two, I contacted security and asked that they check on him. What happened is inexplicable and I am hopeful that further medical reports will provide additional details. I know that he loved our children and he would not hurt them by intentionally taking his own life.”

Kirk Pasich, the attorney for Chris’ family, also released a statement saying that the side effects of Ativan include paranoia, suicidal thoughts and impaired judgement, so they believe taking too much Ativan may have fucked with his head in the worst way.

“Without the results of toxicology tests, we do not know what was going on with Chris — or if any substances contributed to his demise. Chris, a recovering addict, had a prescription for Ativan and may have taken more Ativan than recommended dosages. The family believes that if Chris took his life, he did not know what he was doing, and that drugs or other substances may have affected his actions.”

Because I’m a one-trick lame pony, I was going to say that we need to get Detective La Toya on the case. But that doesn’t make sense since Detective La Toya’s speciality is murder and I don’t think that’s the case here.

And let’s end this pile of sad news with the tribute to Chris Cornell that Ann Wilson did on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night. When I first saw the screen shot, I thought it was Marie Osmond! There’s a lot of things I need in my life but now at the top of that list is Marie Osmond doing Black Hole Sun.
