Russell Wilson’s Mother’s Day Message To Ciara Didn’t Go Over So Well
Yesterday was Mother’s Day, the day when the internet comes together and threatens to crash Instagram’s servers by mass-uploading pictures of moms with captions about how they’re the best in the world. One popular theme yesterday was for dads to thank the mothers of their children. Russell Wilson Instagrammed a message to Ciara on her first Mother’s Day with their daughter Sienna Princess, which included a line about how he’s so grateful to get to raise “our” kids together. That “our” didn’t sit well with people.
The “our” in question would be Sienna Princess and Future Zahir, Ciara’s three-year-old son with Future. Ciara and Future haven’t exactly had the best relationship when it comes to Future Jr., and Future once accused Russell of using his (then new) relationship with Future Jr. as a publicity stunt. Some people were quick to suggest that Russell maybe shouldn’t have been so possessive with his wording, you know, since one of those kids still has a dad in the picture. I’ll give Russell a break; after spending so much time combing through Googling Images for a picture, he probably didn’t have much left over to write the caption.
Russell and Ciara clearly didn’t care about any of those online side-eyes. Shortly after Russell caught some shit for his Instagram post, Ciara threw up this Instagram Story of Future Jr. and Russell together.
The old, much messier Future might have responded to all this by Instagramming a picture of the “Father’s name” section of Future Jr.’s birth certificate and captioning it with a bunch of angry-faced emojis, but he didn’t do that. Instead he posted a picture of Ciara and their son and wished her a very happy Mother’s Day.
Then again, he also wished all his other baby mama’s a happy Mother’s Day too. So that could have been a nice move on Future’s part, or merely just an item checked off on his assistant’s to-do list.
Both Russell Wilson and Ciara have a major case of Chronic Social Media Over-the-topness, so what Russell wrote isn’t that bad to me. Calling Sienna and Future Jr. “our” children is practically a restrained move on his part. Then again, we’re not out of the woods just yet. There’s still Father’s Day, and that’s where things could really get messy. Ciara and Russell might want to run any potential Instagram captions by a trusted friend before they throw them up, just to avoid any more drama. “Hmmm…I don’t know if you want to write that Russell is the absolute 100% #1 best father both children could ever ask for.”
