Katy Perry Says She Did More Than Kiss A Girl, Used To Pray The Gay Away

At the Human Rights Campaign 2017 gala on Saturday night, Katy Perry was given the National Equality Award for being a vocal friend of the LGTBQ community. Katy did more than just thank the HRC when she accepted her award. She also got real with the audience and talked about her experience as a not-totally-straight Christian teen.

We all know that Katy Perry started out making Christian music, and that’s because both her parents are born-again Christians and pastors who raised her in the church. And it clearly lead to some fucked-up feelings regarding her own sexuality. Which, as we learn, isn’t limited to banging dudes.

“I’m just a singer songwriter, honestly. I speak my truths and I paint my fantasies into these little bit-sized pop songs. For instance, I kissed a girl and I liked it. Truth be told, a) I did more than that, and b) but how was I going to reconcile that with a gospel-singing girl raised in youth groups that were pro-conversion camps. What I did know is that I was curious. And even then, I knew that sexuality wasn’t as black and white as this dress.

When I was growing up, homosexuality was synonymous with the word ‘abomination’ and Hell..No way, I wanted the pearly gates and the unlimited froyo toppings. So most of my unconscious adolescence, I prayed the gay away at my Jesus camps.”

Katy goes on to say that her mind was changed on homosexuality once she discovered her “gift” (aka singing) and was introduced to people outside of her gay-hating bubble. She also got in a little shady dig at pop stars who keep their mouth shut on serious issues. Oh, I’m sure I have no idea who that might have been meant for.

“Believe me, it would have been easier just to stay the whipped creamed tits-spraying, poppy lite fluffy fun anthems by the way of animal totems-singing girl who was basically somewhat neutral in stance, and just that more hugs could save the world. No longer can I sit in silence. I have to stand up what I feel is true and that is equality and justice for all, period.”

Katy’s whole speech starts at 34:58.

Katy’s speech proved something to me, and that’s that God truly doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with being gay. Proof: Katy said years ago that she used to pray to God for bigger boobies. And now we know she also used to pray the gay away. Well, all that gay-away praying did nothing; she’s now so close to the LGTBQ community, she’s getting awards from them. But she did get those big boobies she prayed for. Of course, that could just prove that God is obsessed with titties. God, don’t be such a perv!

Here’s more of Katy looking like a cockatoo in $10 Ascot Gavotte drag at the HRC gala on Saturday night.
