Finally, a swimsuit issue cover we can all relate to! I mean, who of us hasn’t spent a vacation splashing around in the ocean in white bikini bottoms and Liberace’s motorcycle jacket?

Last week Page Six reported that Kate Upton might have screwed herself out of the cover of Sports Illustrated: Swimsuit Edition by demanding the cover, because she’s an actress now, which means she’s im-por-tant. It was rumored that there would be three covers, and that the other two were likely to go to Serena Williams and Christie Brinkley. Well, Sports Illustrated released this year’s Swimsuit Edition covers yesterday, and Kate got all three.

@kateupton is BACK!

Sports Illustrated explained their decision to put Kate on all three covers. It’s all very “Sure, Jan Kate’s Publicist.

“We didn’t start off with the idea of three covers, regardless of who was on the cover. But when Kate was actually shooting, we were trying so many different looks on her and each photo was coming back just as great as the next.

It’s a full circle moment for us. We started Kate in her career, and you know, we watched her grow and become not only this worldwide, superstar phenomenon; she changed the direction of the modeling industry. Kate Upton was really this trailblazer that led the way for the Ashley Grahams of the world and everything you’re seeing happen that’s different in fashion right now.”

Kate debuted her covers on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night, and she also Instagrammed her covers with a caption about how she’s just so gee-shucks humbled that Sports Illustrated chose lil’ ol her to appear on all three.

“Wow, I feel so honored and excited to be back with Sports Illustrated!! Thank you @si_swimsuit and @mj_day for inviting me to be part of an issue that features and celebrates beauty and confidence in every shape and size #siswim17 #grateful”

This year’s SI theme is women at every age (see: Christie Brinkley’s shoot) and body diversity. Oh, well duh – that explains why Kate got so many covers. Nothing says diversity more than three covers featuring the exact same person.

The person responsible for spreading that rumor about Kate acting like Big Hollywood is obviously just a jealous hater. These three covers show that yes, Kate is an actress now. She can do it all: sexy faced and covering boobs, sexy faced and covering boobs, sexy faced and covering boobs. Such range!
