Shia LaBeouf Got Arrested At His Anti-Trump Art Project

For about a week now, Shia LaBeouf has been art-ing hard against Trump with a four-year-long project called HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US. Sadly, Shia was divided from his art project last night after he was arrested for alleged assault.

Shia’s art project started out in a non-violent way; people were encouraged to shout “he will not divide us” into a camera mounted on a wall outside of the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens, NY. It’s livestreaming 24/7. Earlier this week, it got messy a couple times. Once when Shia confronted a guy who approached the camera and shouted “14” several times (a favorite number of neo-Nazis), and another time when Shia got physical with a white supremacist who put his arm around him and said “Hitler did nothing wrong.” Things got messy again last night.

According to TMZ, Shia got arrested last night after he allegedly went after another loudmouth. Police tell TMZ that a guy approached the camera, said something that pissed off Shia, who in turn responded by allegedly grabbing the guy’s scarf and scratching him in the face. They have video of what appears to be Shia’s fight. It all takes place off-camera, so you’ll just have to imagine Shia getting messy with someone (shouldn’t be too hard).

TMZ doesn’t know what started the fight. But police did tell them it had nothing to do with Trump. However, the HWNDU Twitter account claims Shia’s arrest stems from that fight he got into earlier in the week with the “Hitler did nothing wrong” guy. They also have video of him getting arrested last night.

TMZ says that Shia was arrested on a misdemeanor assault charge. He was released this morning on his own recognizance at around 3:45. A person at the scene during the arrest, who is clearly on Shia’s side, tells TMZ: “Shia took a hit for us. There were all these Nazis here, he came out and tried to protect us.

Michael made a joke when Shia first launched this art installation that if you put up a camera, people will inevitably take their clothes off. But the downside of humans and cameras is that there’s also a chance they’ll proudly spit out some vile shit. I guess the only way to curb that behavior would be for Shia and his art pals to put up a separate camera called ASSHOLES OVER HERE, PLEASE. It’s not a perfect solution, but at least it will keep some of them away.
