Ashton Kutcher Was Paid Three Times More Than Natalie Portman For “No Strings Attached”

When this picture of Natalie Portman was taken at the No Strings Attached premiere, people probably assumed she was making that “Let’s just get this over with” face because Ashton Kutcher’s douche pheromones were starting to give her a headache. Now we know that it could have been because she’s wondering why the hell the dude beside her got paid three times as much for the same movie.

Natalie admitted during an interview with Marie Claire UK that she was paid way less than Ashton was for 2011’s No Strings Attached. Natalie explains how the star of Dude, Where’s My Car? got paid more than an Academy Award-nominated actress Natalie Portman (she had been nominated six years earlier for Closer). Natalie says it came down to Hollywood “quotes” – an actor or actress’ fee for a film. Ashton’s quote was three times higher, which is how he ended up getting paid three times more. Natalie doesn’t feel right complaining about it, but she still wasn’t happy about it.

“I wasn’t as pissed as I should have been. I mean, we get paid a lot, so it’s hard to complain, but the disparity is crazy. Compared to men, in most professions, women make 80 cents to the dollar. In Hollywood, we are making 30 cents to the dollar.”

Not long after her interview came out, Ashton Kutcher congratulated her on saying something.

The movie he made right before No Strings Attached was actually Killers with Katherine Heigl. What the hell?!? I have no idea how Natalie held it together when she found out that she was getting paid 66% less than the star of Killers for a crappy rom-com like No Strings Attached. Not only does she deserve a check for that missing money, but she deserves some kind of award for not blowing every scene opposite Ashton with a violent eye-twitch. That takes some serious acting skill.
