Ellen Pompeo Was Criticized For Using Black Emojis
A&E has a show about the Ku Klux Klan coming out. They had originally titled it Generation KKK (tasteful!), but that didn’t fly with the general public. So they changed the title to the rather “we’re really, really sorry for being jaunty about racism“-sounding Escaping the KKK: A Documentary Series Exposing Hate in America. Grey’s Anatomy actress Ellen Pompeo, whose husband is African-American, congratulated A&E for the name change in a tweet. She used some emojis that represented black people. It didn’t go so over well.
Thank U @aetv for caring enough to make changes ????A&E Changes ‘Generation KKK’ Title | Variety https://t.co/bvwsLCKDZ6

She’s not black, so she got some guff.
Ellen decided to respond to the tweet.
So, Ellen got some more guff for her response from someone named Apollo. I’m guessing he could give a shit about the romantic travails of Meredith Grey (Is this guy who drove the car that killed McDreamy?).

She also responded to THAT one, noting that she’s in an interracial marriage and has biracial children. Someone responded to that by accusing her of using the “some of my best husbands and children are black” excuse. This went on for three hours. Finally, Ellen threw up her hands and decried the state of sanity in #Murica, as reported by E!.
Eventually she responded, saying, “What’s crazy is how angry everyone is… this is all about emojis people,” she wrote, adding, “It was a really positive thing a&e did… now that’s not the focus ..my fault for responding.”
Ellen could have avoided all of this hubbub by blaming everything on her former co-star Katherine Heigl. NO ONE likes Katherine Heigl. I blame Katherine Heigl for why I couldn’t get my hands on an Nintendo NES Classic for my geek husband for Christmas. It originally cost $60. Some guy on Craiglist wanted $200! No, thank you. Katherine Heigl’s the worst.
