But Who Will Get Custody Of Travertine: The “Flip Or Flop” Couple Have Split

If you told me that a couple from HGTV broke up with each other after one of them had a meltdown, I’d probably guess that the Property Brothers crossed each other off of their family tree after one of them committed the unforgivable sin of using up the other one’s pomade. But Tarek and Christina El Moussa of Flip or Flop are the HGTV couple who currently have a foreclosure sign on their marriage of 7 years.

Their marriage reportedly became a major fixer back in May when the police showed up to their house in Orange County after getting a call of a possibly suicidal male with a gun. I know, this story got dark real fast. And in other words, Tarek flipped and then their marriage flopped. Some puns are just so easy that it hurts not to grab at them.

TMZ reports that on that day in May, 11 deputies and a helicopter responded to the call and when they all got there, they found Tarek running out of his house with a gun in his hand. Tarek ran down a hiking trail behind his house. He stopped and dropped the gun when deputies in the helicopter told him to. Sources say that Christina also ran out of the house and was shaking and crying.

Tarek told the cops that he wasn’t planning on shooting up himself or anybody else. He was just “blowing off steam” and brought his gun on his hike just in case he encountered a rattlesnake or mountain lion who is more of a Fixer Upper fan. No charges were filed, but the cops did end up seizing 5 guns, including an AR-15.

Tarek and Christina told People that since that shit went down, they have been working on their marriage. But while they’re able to turn a busted dump into a dull, generic cookie cutter gem, they weren’t able to fix their marriage. They have decided to separate, but will continue to work together on the show and as parents of a son and daughter.

“Like many couples, we have had challenges in our marriage. We had an unfortunate misunderstanding about six months ago and the police were called to our house in an abundance of caution. There was no violence and no charges were filed.

During the process, we are committed to our kids and being the best parents we can be. We will continue to work through this process civilly and cooperatively, and plan to continue our professional life together.”

As for the show, their awkward chemistry is about to get more awkward, because HGTV said in a statement that it will go on, for now.

“We admire and appreciate Tarek and Christina’s great work on Flip or Flop. When it comes to matters related to their own family, we respect their privacy and honor any decision that works best for them and their children. HGTV is currently airing episodes of Flip or Flop, and the series will continue production as scheduled.”

This news is both shocking and non-shocking. On one hand, Tarek and Christina seem like wax-covered robots that were built by HGTV scientists and engineers to be the perfect manufactured couple who only fight about what shade of grey wood to cover the floors with. But on the other hand, Tarek seems like he’s always internally screaming inside and is a stressful backsplash decision away from breaking every subway tile in the house after his last nerve snapped. But we all really should’ve seen this coming, because you should never ever trust a grown man with a 5-year-old’s haircut.
