The Fixer Upper Couple’s Church Claims That They Don’t Hate Gays

Another Fixer Upper scandal was born the other day when Buzzfeed’s Kate Aurthur wrote a piece about how the show’s stars, Chip and Joanna Gaines, belong to an evangelical megachurch that is 100% against same-sex marriage. I would’ve been surprised if the evangelical megachurch they belong to wasn’t against same-sex marriage. There’s been many gay and lesbian couples on other HGTV shows, but none have been on Fixer Upper. So Kate wondered if Chip and Joanna co-sign their church’s beliefs. A gay Christian writer called Buzzfeed’s article a “hit piece” in an op-ed for The Washington Post and others called it a “witch hunt” and a non-story.

HGTV said in a statement that they don’t discriminate against LGBT couples on any of their shows. And the pastor of Chip and Joanna’s church, Antioch Community Church, claims that they don’t hate the LGBT community and they’re “open” to showing support. Meanwhile, this drama has caused Chip and Joanna’s HGTV arch rivals (in my head) and alleged scammers, Tarek and Christina El Moussa of Flip or Flop, to cackle loudly before fighting over whether the wood floors in their newest flip should be grey or grey.

Buzzfeed’s article lays down evidence of Antioch’s stance against same-sex marriage and Kate posted quotes from a sermon that the church’s pastor, Jimmy Seibert, gave. Jimmy called homosexuality a sin, said that SCOTUS legalizing same-sex marriage was a “clear biblical admonition” and said that he believes that poon-loving women and peen-loving men can change ourselves into peen-loving women and poon-loving men. You can watch Pastor Jimmy’s sermon here if you want, but he basically says that my gay soul will burn in Lucifer’s butthole unless I switch to cooch.

But after Buzzfeed’s article went everywhere, Pastor Jimmy told Fox News that his church doesn’t hate gays.

“We are not only not anti-gay, but we are pro-helping people in their journey to find out who God is and who He has made them to be.”

Chip and Joanna haven’t directly responded to Buzzfeed’s article, but Chip did tweet this:

Chip and Joanna only do houses in or around Waco, TX, so some figured that maybe the few gay people that live in Waco don’t really want their houses to look like Pinterest diarrhea’d all over it. But I have a feeling that in a future episode of Fixer Upper, Chip and Joanna will magically shiplap up the house of a gay couple, and at the very end of it, Pastor Jimmy will bring them a housewarming gift: an electro shock machine covered in shiplap.
