Tilda Swinton Is Not A Fan Of Hogwarts

Science says that we’re all made of stardust (and, like, other stuff), but I think we all know that while some of us are made of stardust, one of us is the titan who crushed those stars into dust in the first place. Yes, Tilda Swinton is back and she’s coming for Harry Potter of all fictional people. Tilda gave an interview with The Scots Magazine (via The Daily Mail) and in it she talks about growing up with the kind of money that lets parents drop their kids off at school for 12 years.

Actress Tilda Swinton criticised the Harry Potter films for romanticising the ‘cruel’ boarding school experience. The star, 56, who boarded at the exclusive West Heath Girls’ School, in Sevenoaks, Kent, said it can be harmful to separate children from their parents at a young age.

The Daily Mail points out that Tilda herself was a classmate of Princess Diana. Aaand there goes my brain, off to spin up some very elaborate teen crime fighting fictions about those two. She continued:

‘I think they are a very cruel setting in which to grow up and I don’t feel children benefit from that type of education. Children need their parents. That’s why I dislike films like Harry Potter, which tend to romanticise such places.’

Tilda feels strongly enough on the matter that she made her own private school in Scotland that focuses on outdoor education and using your brain for art. But uh… An alternative private school in Scotland that cares about being outside, developing practical skills, and using creative thought? I’m not sure if anyone should let T~Swint know, but it sounds like she just invented a non-magical Hogwarts. Well, as long as it isn’t a boarding school I guess that’s fine!

I’m afraid Tilda needs to have her otherworldly sentries watching her back double-time now. Not only is she stepping on the toes of rich parents, JK Rowling, and every lunatic Harry Potter fan, but Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith might just slap a lawsuit at her. Remember when they funded that now-defunct school in Calabasas? Yeah. If any aliens are going to run a private school, it’s going to be the aliens living on Scientologists, thankyouverymuch.
