Stanley Kubrick’s Daughter Wants Everyone To Keep Their Eyeballs Away From Dr. Phil’s Shelley Duvall Interview

Every new Dr. Phil promo is depressing because it means that his face is still terrorizing TV screens. But his promo of his interview with Shelley Duvall was extra depressing. Shelley is on tomorrow’s episode of Dr. Phil and she’s clearly mentally ill and has been for a while. Like many, Vivian Kubrick, the daughter of Stanley Kubruck (who directed Shelley in The Shining), got grossed out by the promo and called for a boycott. Vivian tweeted an open letter to the diabolical dick head and called his interview with Shelley “lurid and exploitive entertainment.” Vivian must be new, because she obviously doesn’t know that when you call Dr. Phil’s show “exploitive,” he answers back with, “Why, thank you!

When Vivian was a teenager, she did a documentary about the making of The Shining and in it, there were clips of Kubrick being an asshole to Shelley. Kubrick apparently tortured Shelley to the point where her hair fell out from the stress of it all.

Vivian knew Shelley for a little bit and is now defending her against Dr. Phil. Here’s Vivian’s full open letter to the concern troll monster that Oprah created.

According to articles on the internet (like this one from The Daily Beast), Vivian became a Scientologist in the late-90s and stopped speaking to her family. So while I love Vivian Kubrick giving it to Dr. Phil, I don’t know how I’d feel about Vivian trying to help Shelley by recruiting her into Scientology. Shelley would go from thinking that aliens are living on her body to…well thinking that aliens are living on her body.

And in possibly related news, Dr. Phil has announced that he has extended his interview with Shelley Duvall into a 5-part series airing Thanksgiving week!
