Not content to simply be a very rich Hollywood actress or a wannabe singer, Scarlett Johansson has decided to diversify the ScarJo brand by opening a gourmet popcorn shop in Paris. I guess Scarlett Johansson and her French husband Romain Dauriac were tired of jerking off a tinfoil pan of Jiffy Pop like the rest of us. A press release went out earlier today announcing the opening of a fancy popcorn shop this Saturday called – wait for it – Yummy Pop. Congratulations on coming up with a name in less time than it takes to salt pop corn.
Yummy Pop’s flagship store will have a soft open this Saturday in the Marais district of Paris, with a grand opening to be announced sometime in the future. According to Scarlett’s statement in the press release, it sounds like she decided to get into the popcorn game because popcorn is hard to come by in Paris, where she lives half of the time with her husband and their 2-year-old daughter Rose Dorothy.
“It has been a dream of mine and my family for several years to bring our favorite American snack to our favorite European City! I am so excited to introduce Yummy Pop, a labor of love and Epicurean enthusiasm. My hope is for Yummy Pop to become a Parisian snacking staple and a symbol of friendship between my two most beloved cities, Paris and New York.”
A spokesperson for Scarlett tells The Guardian a little more about Yummy Pop, saying it will be managed by Romain’s sister Iceberg (I have no idea what her name is). Some of the flavors will include: sea salt and olive oil, Vermont cheddar, Vermont maple, truffle parmesan sage, and strawberries and cream. If Yummy Pop is successful, then they’ll open additional locations.
The Guardian says that Scarlett might also work in the shop from time to time. If that’s true, then Marais is about to earn the nickname of “Le District du Loitering Creeps.”
The closest I’ve ever been to Paris was the time Carmela and Rosalie Aprile went on The Sopranos, so I had no idea that popcorn wasn’t a thing there. So the good news is that Scarlett is bringing a really delicious snack to the people of Paris. The bad news is this also means she’s about to introduce them to two of the worst things in the world: the feeling of having a popcorn kernel stuck in your teeth and the gut rot you get after you inevitably eat your weight in popcorn. I’m sorry Paris.
