Jim Carrey Got Sued For The Wrongful Death Of His Girlfriend

About a year ago, Jim Carrey’s 30-year-old Irish makeup artist girlfriend Cathriona White committed suicide in her home in Sherman Oaks, CA. She and Jim Carrey had been on-and-off for 3 years and he had reportedly broken up with her just a few days before she died. She left suicide notes including one to Jim Carrey. A few weeks after she overdosed on prescription drugs, it was reported that next to her were 4 pill bottles. The name on 3 of the bottles was allegedly the alias that Jim used for prescriptions. (It’s illegal in CA, but apparently famous tricks do that a lot for privacy reasons.) The other bottle had a different name on it. Well, since Jim Carrey is famous and has bank accounts overfilled with money, he’s been sued by Cathriona’s estranged husband for wrongful death.

USA Today reports that Cathriona was legally married to a dude from Oregon named Mark Burton but they were separated. Mark filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles claiming that Jim Carrey did some shady shit before and after Cathriona’s death. The lawsuit claims that Jim Carrey got a bunch of prescription drugs like Ambien, Propranolol and Percocet using the alias “Arthur King.” Mark claims that Jim gave the drugs to Cathriona a few days before her death, knowing full well that she suffered from depression and had tried to commit suicide before.

People says that in the toxicology report is a note from police saying that when they checked Cathriona’s cellphone, they found texts from Jim Carrey asking if she knew where the painkillers he kept under his sink went. He said in another text that a bottle of prescription anti-inflammatories was gone. Jim sent those texts after Cathriona went missing, and Mark believes that he did it to cover his shifty ass.

The complaint asks, “If Carrey legitimately believed White had taken the drugs from him and she had subsequently gone missing for days with no contact, then why would Carrey not immediately request law enforcement to check on her well-being after she did not return his text?”

Mark is also accusing Jim of going all Truman Show on Cathriona by getting remote access to the surveillance cameras that were in the house she was living in. Jim was allegedly obsessed with controlling her and would use those cameras to track her going in and out of the house. When he noticed that she hadn’t left the house in 24 hours, he sent those texts. That’s what Mark claims anyway.

Jim was a pallbearer at her funeral in Ireland, but Mark says his sad face was all an act for press. According to Mark, Jim had offered to pay for Cathriona’s funeral, but didn’t after finding out that she left her money to her family.

That lawsuit is all-caps, bolded DARK! I mean, that Mark dude is painting Jim Carrey as a controlling Billy-Baldwin-in-Sliver-like schemer who has millions of dollars but still wanted his ex-girlfriend’s money for himself. The creepiest thing I’ve known Jim Carrey to do is date Jenny McCarthy for way too long.

And if you want a light in your head to come on as you say, “Oh, so this lawsuit makes complete sense now,” read the following line: Mark Burton is reportedly a Scientologist.

UPDATE: Jim Carrey’s lawyer tell TMZ that Mark’s lawsuit is nothing but a shameless shakedown for cash. Jim denies giving Cathriona one pill and says she took his meds without permission. His lawyer also says that Mark and Cathriona didn’t live together and they only got married so she wouldn’t be deported back to Ireland.
