Hot Slut Of The Day!

Kelly Slater as Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka!

We all mourn the death of our favorite differently. Some write a few words on Facebook. Some tweet a quote their favorite said in a movie. Some badly warble out “Pure Imagination” on Snapchat (you know who you are, and yes, I unfriended you for that shit). And others make it about them by posting an expertly Photoshopped picture of their face over their favorite’s face on Instagram. Hot piece professional surfer Kelly Slater went there. After we all learned that the planet has lost Gene Wilder, Kelly paid tribute to Gene by covering Willy Wonka’s face with his own in a messy picture that made people laugh, cry, shake their heads, laugh some more, cry some more and shake their heads some more.

Kelly added this caption where he says that Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory was such a big part of his childhood that his mom called him Willy….

There is no life I know to compare with pure imagination…’ So long, #GeneWilder/#WillyWonka. And thank you for broadening our imaginations as kids. #IveGotAGoldenTicket. And my mom did call me Willy my whole childhood.

As Buzzfeed points out, Kelly Slater’s WTF-worthy Gene Wilder tribute got mixed reactions and many thought his ass was being disrespectful and wondered why the hell did he cover up the real Willy Wonka’s face like that? Kelly responded with this:

Kelly turning himself into Kelly Wonka as an homage to Gene Wilder isn’t that random. Kelly has said that his favorite movie is Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, and last month he announced a golden ticket contest where two fans will win a trip to his surf ranch. That work of artistic foolery made many laugh and Gene Wilder loved bringing joy to the world, so mission accomplished, Kelly Wonka?
