Scarlett Johansson Is The World’s Highest Grossing Actress

What comes to mind when you think of Hollywood’s biggest money makers? If you’re me, you’d think Meg Ryan, Goldie Hawn, Billy Crystal, Annette Benning, etc. And yes, that’s because I live in a Groundhog Day kind of world where it’s perpetually 1996. Sadly, that is not the world we live in. Scarlett Johansson, the woman who may or may not have had sex with Kimberly Stewart’s babydaddy in an elevator once, has been named the highest grossing actress of all time. Had you asked me for a current star that would get that honor, I would’ve told you Catherine Zeta-Jones. What?! She is current!

According to Box Office Mojo’s newest and most up-to-date list of the highest grossing Hollywood types in the game, Scarlett is one of the tops. Scarlett comes in at number 10, with her films totaling a gross of $3.3 billion. Most of that money, surely, comes from the worldwide mega hit Eight Legged Freaks. The rest mostly comes in from small indies, like that Avengers shit. Scarlett, at 31, is the youngest person in the top 30 and the only woman in the top 10. Congrats are in order, I suppose, as the majority of the top 10 and the rest of the list are filled with hos that have been around forever. Like the person in the #1 spot, Harrison Ford. Congrats are also in order, because who would’ve thought that someone with eyes as lively as a piece of cardboard, or, well, Blake Lively, would be in such bankable movies.

You can see the top 50 list here, but this is the top 10:

1. Harrison Ford
2. Samuel L. Jackson
3. Morgan Freeman
4. Tom Hanks
5. Robert Downey Jr.
6. Eddie Murphy
7. Tom Cruise
8. Johnny Depp
9. Michael Caine
10. Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett’s ranking can only go up. Between more Avengers movies and her next “sure to be hit“, Ghost in the Shell, there’s so much money to be made. There’s been a lot of Emma Stone in Aloha-type controversy around her casting, but take a look at some evidence and judge for yourself. Here’s Scarlett’s leaked audition for Ghost in the Shell. All jokes aside, here’s the first official photo of her in it. We’re past the point where Hollywood can get away with Mickey Rooney as Mr. Yunioshi in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. But there’s still a chance ScarJo playing Kusanagi will be about as well-received as Emma Stone in Aloha. Not-right casting and possible box office flopping aside, ScarJo will still be staring dead-eyed and happy at a huge pile of money.
