Will Ferrell Is Not Starring In That Ronald Reagan Alzheimer’s “Comedy” After All

Variety reported yesterday that Will Ferrell was going to produce and star in Reagan, which has been described as a “dementia comedy” about the 1980s president’s second term. The synopsis for it goes like this: At the beginning of President Raegan’s second term when he “falls into dementia,” an intern is told that they have to convince Reagan that he’s actually an actor playing the president in a movie. That premise went over as well as explosive diarrhea at a butt sex orgy. It went over as well as that joke.

After that news hit, the pitchforks of rage almost immediately came out. The Alzheimer’s Association and Ronald Reagan’s son Michael both shit on the news. And Reagan’s daughter Nancy Davis wrote an open letter to Will Ferrell on The Daily Beast where she told him that dementia wasn’t not funny and laid out her experience with Alzheimer’s. You can read her whole open letter here, but below is a piece of it:

Perhaps for your comedy you would like to visit some dementia facilities. I have—I didn’t find anything comedic there, and my hope would be that if you’re a decent human being, you wouldn’t either.

The only certainty with Alzheimer’s is that more will be lost and the disease will always win in the end.

Perhaps you would like to explain to them how this disease is suitable material for a comedy.

Well, reach into your GIF purse and pull out your thatescalatedquickly.GIF, because this has escalated quickly. Will Ferrell has pulled out of Reagan (that visual, I know) and his spokeswhore blew out the flames on the torches directed at his ass by saying that it’s not an “Alzheimer’s comedy” and he was never officially signed to it. His rep gave this statement to Page Six:

“The REAGAN script is one of a number of scripts that had been submitted to Will Ferrell which he had considered. While it is by no means a ‘Alzheimer’s comedy’ as has been suggested, Mr. Ferrell is not pursuing this project.”

The script is out there, but I haven’t read it. I’m the kind of trick who believes that humor can be found in almost anything, but if Will Ferrell pulled out, it must be a wreck. I mean, Will Ferrell signed up for Zoolander 2! But I’m sure the movie will get a new star and I’m even more sure that star will be Adam Sandler. He needs to keep up his reign as the King of the Razzies!
