Pharrell’s hat twin Linda Perry became Little Monster enemy #1 last night when she accused Lady CaCa of using one of Beyonce’s signature tricks to get a writing credit on a song. Linda Perry is the one who exposed Beyonce’s writing credit trick and now she’s yanking at Gaga’s wig. Diane Warren and Gaga were nominated for a Best Song Oscar for the song Til It Happens To You from the documentary The Hunting Ground. Linda went “hmmm…” on Twitter last night over how Diane Warren’s demo of the song was pretty much identical to the version that Lady CaCa released. The hipster cholita scarecrow says that only one little line was re-worked in Til It Happens To You, and she thinks Diane let Gaga make that tiny change so that Gaga would get a writing credit and the song would get more promotion.
Linda Perry says that she just wants the truth out there. I also love that she called the Little Monsters “Gaga kids.” That’s one way to get the Little Monsters to wish AIDS and cancer upon you (and this is coming from a bitch who’s been there):
Normally I wouldn’t respond to all this but I don’t know Im feeling spunky. There was another artist that originally was gonna sing #TIHTY I have Diane’s original demo with her singing. The only line that has been changed “Till you’re at the end, the end of your rope” Originally was “TIL YOU GOT A HOLE RIPPED IN YOUR SOUL”. So I guess technically one line was changed so sure Gaga possibly “rewrote” a line. But chances are Diane still took part in rewriting that line which means Gaga contributed a few words. Is that writing? Not in my book.
I love Gaga so much respect and love this song that has nothing to do with anything. Why did Gaga get credit? Maybe because Diane wanted to ensure her support in promoting the song. Gaga is a very smart business women she knew a song written by Diane Warren would be up for an Oscar. And you know it’s hard getting music out there and heard. Especially a song from a documentary , so Diane knew if she gave Gaga writing credit it would ensure the support this song needed and deserved. And Gaga knows her power. I’m not putting anyone or anything down. I’m stating the truth . I credit Diane for writing this song, it is her experience her pain her words. That’s it kids.
Listen, one of you Gaga kids got upset when I said Diane wrote a great song. You can’t win on Twitter. I’m stating why I didn’t include. There’s no bitterness, I’ve stated Gaga killed this song so powerful so blown away by her performance. Don’t turn things negative. I’m stating my truth that’s it if you don’t like it, it’s ok just don’t spend anytime here. Breathe everything is ok! Interesting what we react to. We could learn a lot about ourselves by just observing our reaction to things.
So many words. I wish Linda would’ve kept it simple and only said, “And I say, heeeeeeeeey yeeeeeeeah yeeeeeeeeeah, heeeeey yeeeeeeeah yeah, I said hey, that bitch didn’t write shit!”
Diane Warren responded to Linda’s accusations on Twitter today. Diane didn’t exactly say that she and CaCa equally wrote the lyrics of the song on a linen paper journal while curled up together under a tree at sunset in the springtime. But Diane did say the song was born from a “collaboration” between the two:
Til It Happens To You was written for The Hunting Ground, an incredibly powerful documentary about sexual assault on college campuses. The song is the result of a special collaboration between myself and Lady Gaga. As Lady Gaga and I have consistly said. Til it Happens To You was inspired by the countless survivors of abuse who need our support and love so they know they’re not alone.
Diane Warren wrote the masterpiece Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now from Mannequin and she wrongly lost the Oscar to (I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life from Dirty Dancing. So she needs an Oscar as much as Linda Perry’s hair needs a good shampooing. But with that being said, Linda Perry trying to keep Lady CaCa from getting the O in EGOT is the cure for the Monday sads.
UPDATE: The Little Monsters got to her! Linda Perry tweeted this apology.
My sincere apologies. I made a mistake to comment. I wasn't in the room when the #TIHTY was being written.
