Hot Slut Of The Day!
The Hope Diamond of the 70s: The Sequined Butterfly Disco Top!
If you were a 1970s Atlantic City area, AM-shift pussy peddler who always went straight from the club to your corner on the ho stroll and liked to wear an ensemble that screamed, “I LOVE COKE,” then this sequined piece of fashion art was probably a staple in your wardrobe. The sequined butterfly disco top from the 70s and 80s could make absolutely anyone look like they were dripping in class and glamour. One of the first times I learned the definition of potent glamour was in the mid-80s when my mom was called into her job at the hospital late one night and brought me with her. As I raced myself in a wheelchair down the halls while waiting for her, one of her co-workers, who was also called in, strolled in wearing a bright blue sequined butterfly top and black leggings. She threw on a white lab coat and was good to go. She gave her patient the best medicine that money can’t buy: GLAMOUR!
I’m actually surprised that the sequined butterfly disco top (aka Mariah Carey: The Blouse) never overtook the plain white t-shirt as the single most important item in everyone’s dresser drawer. I couldn’t find out who earned themselves a place in fashion history by designing the sequined butterfly disco top, so I’m just going to assume it was Coco Chanel’s ghost. It’s that classic.
