Party Monster Michael Alig Is Out Of Prison After Serving 17 Years For Murder

18 years after he pleaded guilty to manslaughter for killing drug dealer Andre “Angel” Melendez with a hammer, Drano and duct tape, Club Kid Michael Alig has sashayed out of Mid-State Correctional Facility in Marcy, NY and is now on loose in NYC. Hide yo hammer, hide yo Drano and hide yo drug dealer NOW.

Now 47-year-old Michael Alig was sentenced to 10 to 20 years in the chokey and he started serving time in 1997. Robert Riggs, the crazy who helped Michael Alig murder and dismember Angel over an unpaid drug bill, was also sentenced to 10 to 20 years and he got out of prison in 2010. Fellow club kid James St. James wrote a really good book about the club scene and the murder in a book called Disco Bloodbath, which was later turned into the movie Party Monster starring Macaulay Culkin, Seth Green, Chloe Sevigny, Rickie from My-So-Called Life and Christina from Mommie Dearest.

Michael Alig was up for parole in 2006, but the the word DENIED was stamped in red on his forehead after the parole board watched Party Monster. He was also denied for parole in 2008. But third time was a charm and Michael Alig’s parole was granted. As Gothamist points out, Michael Alig hasn’t wasted any time and is already tweeting about his first out-of-prison meal (a burrito) and how he feels like Kim Kardashian since a camera crew from WOW, the production company that producers Drag Race, filmed his release. I thought that one of the “perks” of being in prison was not knowing who the Kartrashians are, but I guess not. In fact, Michael Alig knows a lot of current pop culture shit for someone who was in prison for manslaughter for 17 years.

Michael Alig’s twitter account started when he was still in prison and it was ran by some of his friends. I read some of his tweets today and what I learned is that in prison your roommates can cook you BBQ chicken and you can watch Basketball Wives and HGTV.  As Stefon would say, the newest club is PRISON, it has EVERYTHING. And judging from Michael Alig’s haircut, the style books in the prison hair salon haven’t been updated since 1997.

And he’ll be announced as a cast member on Dancing with the Has-Beens in 3..2…..
