Grubby the Caterpillar, Teddy Ruxpin’s best friend forever!

A piece of the heart of the 80s died yesterday when we all learned that the Dr. Frankenstein to Teddy Ruxpin’s furry monster, Ken Forsse, passed away peacefully at his home in California last Thursday. Out of Ken Forsse’s brain came Teddy Ruxpin, the talking toy bear who would open his plastic eye lids when we went to sleep at night. To pay tribute to Ken, today’s HSOTD is Grubby, Teddy’s forever friend in the animated TV show, The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin, which Ken also produced.

Even though Grubby was a caterpillar, he was just as big as Teddy Ruxpin, a bear. Grubby had the brains of a Hilton and the body of an un-Spanxed Kardashian, but he had a heart of pure gold and was kind of horny too. The only episode I really remember is the one where Grubby gets the tingles for a gorgeous lady caterpillar who was Christina Hendricks in the chest and Ann Margret in the hair. She got the tingles for him too and who could blame her? If you were a caterpillar, you too would get hot for a caterpillar with two dildos on his ass.

After The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin debuted in 1987, the Grubby the Caterpillar talking toy came out. You could hook Grubby up with a cord to a Teddy Ruxpin doll and they’d perform together. Double the horror!

I couldn’t find a commercial starring Grubby, so I leave you with this Teddy Ruxpin commercial:

Rest in peace, Ken Forsse. Your memory lives on in the talking plushie toys that will haunt our waking moments forever.
