Bert And Ernie Come Out On The Cover Of The New Yorker

June 28, 2013 / Posted by:

Sesame Street has said a couple of times that Bert and Ernie are strictly best friends and Muppets don’t have sex parts or a sexual orientation, therefore Muppets do not bone. Uh huh, we all knew that Sesame Street was yanking us without lube, because if Muppets don’t have sex parts, how in the hell is Kermit hitting Miss Piggy from the back all the time? But even though Sesame Street denies that Bert and Ernie are more than just friends, The New Yorker got bold and put them on their marriage equality cover. The illustration was drawn by artist Jack Hunter who submitted it to The New Yorker’s Tumblr last year. Jack calls his piece “Moment of Joy” and explained it like this:

“It’s amazing to witness how attitudes on gay rights have evolved in my lifetime. This is great for our kids, a moment we can all celebrate.”

I will fully celebrate as soon as somebody gets Bert and Ernie cable. I mean, an analog black and white TV in 2013?! No wonder they only watch PBS. The last time I saw a black and white analog TV, it was broken and my auntie was using it as a side table on her backyard patio. Now that Bert and Ernie can get married and file their taxes jointly, maybe they can finally afford a flatscreen and cable. How dreadful.
