Naomi Watts Doesn't Want To Look Like An Ice Cube-Faced Freak
Naomi Watts tells Australia's Good Health Magazine (via E!) that even though she's not completely shaking her head no to the idea of getting her face pulled, plucked and tucked, she thinks doing so would be a bad career move, because she wouldn't be able to show raw emotion in her face. Without naming names (*cough* Nicole Kidman *cough*), Naomi said some actresses who do plasticize their faces end up looking like a shellacked piece of Silly Putty with eyes.
"Never say never—and I certainly don't judge anyone who does it. But most of the characters I play are going through some kind of emotional turmoil, so my job requires me to have expression. If my face was froze, what right do I have to play that part? All the women who haven't anything to their faces are still able to play great roles. And some of the ones who have done something have messed it up—they look freakish. Anyway, for me it's about playing women with rich lives—and the longer the life, the deeper the wrinkles."
Naomi's obviously not talking shit about her good fwend Nicole Kidman, because Nicole Kidman is nearly 100% all natural and organic. A Botox needle has only touched Nicole's face once and she just naturally looks like a cold mound of dough that's been overworked with a roller. But if Naomi is talking about Nicole, then she appreciates the shade, because it keeps her frozen face frozen.

Isn't they together look very sweet!! :) :)
Manuka honey
Haha Withy! Oh no, comparing Nicole to that lot?! No!!!

You think so? It's almost like they all say the same thing, isn't it?
I still think Naomi looks pretty nice and when not too frozen, Nicole as well! But standing together, they remind me of the blonde version of JWowww and Snookie. Naomi should never stand next to Nic. Ever again.

I was a creative writing wonk in college/grad school (and yes, you can get degrees in it...and no, you really shouldn't be able to)
____________________________________________________
I got an MFA in Creative Writing/Fiction and PhD in lit. The MFA used to be a terminal degree (to most it still is), but now there is a PhD in creative writing. It makes no sense. It's adding creative writing to lit courses. It's just another way for colleges to make some bucks.

Oh they all say that before they need it.

You mean they all say that after they've done it. Kate Winslet crapped out this BS too.
Rachel Weisz, as hard as it is to believe it, IS naturally gorgeous.
OMG they look so sweet together. I love them both but Naomi def gets the beauty award. I always thought Nicole was effin hideous and never understood her appeal.
Wow. Nicole's nose has become so pinched, I'm amazed she can breath out of it! And seeing how she's a grade A shrew, she will not take this shade lying down. Her claws are coming out for Naomi, so sit back with a bowl of popcorn and prepare to watch cat fighting of epic proportions!
She is full of lies and was full of collagen and juvederm before the Oscars this year. Another Rachel Weisz.
Re split infinitives, find me a reputable grammarian--not some FB hack--who says you can't. It's an imaginary rule thought up by 18thC Latinists, who wished to change a supposedly coarse Germanic language into the more intellectual Latin.
GB Shaw wrote this to the Times of London: "There is a pedant on your staff who spends far too much of his time searching for split infinitives. Every good literary craftsman uses a split infinitive if he thinks the sense demands it. I call for this man's instant dismissal; it matters not whether he decides to quickly go or to go quickly or quickly to go. Go he must, and at once."
See what former NYT ed. Patricia O'Conner says: http://www.grammarphobia.com/blog/2006/12/split-infinitive.html
The only surgery I'd get done is a nip/tuck because I've had two kids. I'm done popping babies and it'd be nice to get tight around the waist area. However, I'd never mess with my face. Hell no. Besides,I don't need to. . All I do to stay wrinkle free is stay away from the sun. I'm young but still... I know firsthand how the sun can mess up your face since my sister started developing wrinkles at 28. My age. Also, I don't drink coffee, alcohol (cause I'm BFing) or soda and dont smoke cigs. Overall, I live a pretty healthful life.
As far as NK,her face terrifies me. Damn! Every time I see her, I still can't believe that's an actual human being. She went overboard with the face pulling and Botox. She's barely recognizable. On the other hand, NW looks fresh, young and beautiful. She def has a sweet face. Please, girl, don't mess that up!

You can really shuffle off to Buffalo with that bullshit Naomi, because you're a 45 year old blonde mother of 2 with a completely smooth forehead.
I want to stand and salute this greatness.
But Naomi's forehead looks pretty fucking embalmed in that pic no?
Naomi will give in to the dark side, if she plans on staying in film. They all get insecure and believe they have to do it to get roles. I hope one day, some actress will have the guts to not have work done and Not self-righteoussly talk about it.

'Jealous' Nicole Kidman 'refuses to film Oscars promo backing her friend Naomi Watts'
.....
Totally believe that. Kidman is obsessed with acclaim and awards, and well, it seems validation in general. Whatever happened to the insecure little freckled Aussie ginge?
Team Naomi all the way, prettier and more talented. Nicole is just someone I never got, sure she's not horrible but is a limited actress that keeps playing the same ice queen (literally frozen) over and over again. Funnily enough Grace Kelly is next. As one critic said of her, she's a movie star desperately trying to be taken seriously as an actress. She wants to be Tilda Swinton or Cate Blanchett but is more akin to a Julia Roberts.
She would be annoyed that The Paperboy missed the cut as it made a lot of precursor awards (though why anyone would choose her over Ann Dowd in Compliance is a mystery). She strategically chooses prestige projects and directors, like how she bought the rights to Rabbit Hole, a Tony winner for Cynthia Nixon after no one would give Miss Botox Box Office Poison work. Samantha Morton complained about her taking all the roles. And why her insane fans give her a pass for Scientology is another mystery.

Wow, if this is true, Nicole Kidman is a world-class asshole. Before, when Kidman was in the spotlight, Watts has always been a loyal and supportive friend to her. The least she could do is return the favor.

LOL forever.
JTROS you'll need to ask a real doc, but my understanding is that botox relaxes things, not tightens them.
All T all shade.
I'm debating a little Botox to even my face out, if it can do what I need. My eyebrows are uneven on my face because of my surgery (they removed and replaced the bone right over my eye), so I need one side to be raised up a bit. I know it's silly, but it really stands out to me & I'd love to correct it without any more surgery.
Would Botox accomplish this??
Why do they lie? It just makes them look like morons. Virginia Madsen is completely upfront with her botox advocacy and no one gives her shit about it.
That said, I like Naomi and think she's a good actress.
Australia's answer to Kate Winslet.

Who are you calling silly cow?
Personally, I don't have a problem with a bit of botox here and there, or a little nip and tuck. I think the problem is when people who don't even NEED it start messing with their faces and can't stop.
I'm a fan of the very subtle fixes that keep you looking like you, just well-rested and fresh. When things start looking distorted, like the RHOBH, it's creepy.
I still think N. Kidman is beautiful. But then I really like her so she could get really old and wrinkly and I'd still think she's beautiful.
Her hair though---needs help.

I've been considering it. A friend's had a bit done and looks FAB, not plastic. And no, I don't think Mr B would be into it either.

omg, that is EXACTLY how we resolved it!!! my colleague is the "grammar nazi ;-)" who likes the latter form. i prefer the first version even though it is not technically correct. imo when one is writing a sentence designed to persuade you want to have flow rather than jarring the reader's eyes with an "unusual" phrasing. i think in normal speech most people would say "failed to adequately"

At the first signs of aging she'll go the way they all go, i.e. to the plastic surgeon's office. In fact, she looks as though she's already dabbled with the needle.

Even better than Goopy's shade, which a little more heavy-handed. Very nicely done.

We creative writing types always get ourselves into a bind trying to sound pretty, so when we make a gaffe, it's always fun to simply throw a, "Well, I can take liberties with the English language because I'm creative like that," at it.

If I may...
"failed to XX adequately"/"adequately failed to XX" is the most correct. I think "failed adequately to XX" keeps the infinitive intact, but it's a compound split infinitive, so it's less correct.

That's easy: whichever feels right and gets the sense right. Think of Star Trek's "to boldly go...." The so-called rule against splitting an infinitive is no rule at all.
I earned every goddamn wrinkle on my face. To Hell with looking like a well preserved cadaver like Nicole Kidman. She's a punch line in every joke about vapid women who can't handle the fact they're not in their 20's or even their 30's anymore.
I roll my eyes at that stock answer they all give (when it's obvious they've had a needle or two). "Oh, maybe in the future, teehee" which translates into "see, I'm relatable, I'm just like you, go see my movie!!!!!!!!!"
