QOTD: Manti Te’o On The Rumor That He Loves Real Dick
While sitting in front of an FTD bouquet, Katie Couric asked Manti Te'o if he created a fake dead girlfriend to hide his gayness sort of the same way someone (I'm not naming names) might use a few dozen squirts of Jovan Musk to hide the scent of butt sex in their room after a particularly messy orgy. Man Titty O got all uncomfortable, like Tom Cruise uncomfortable, and then basically said that if you brought up Google Maps, hit the "Get Directions" button, typed his name in A, and typed "gay" in B, the blue line would go on forever. That's how far from gay he is.
Katie: "One of the theories, many theories, Manti, making the rounds, is somehow you created this whole scenario to cover up your sexual orientation. Are you gay?
Manti: "No, far from it. Faaaaaaaaaaaar from it."
Then the audience laugh and I'm guessing it was one of those "bitch, please" laughs. My b-hole did twitch when he let out that long faaaaaaaaaaaa. Maybe dude doesn't crave dick, but that cardigan says otherwise. I think Zac Efron wore that same outfit in one of the High School Musicals. Do with that what you will.

Even if he WERE tricked, the fact that he has already been caught in lies about whether he met the "girl" means that he was milking it for maximum effect.
THAT cannot be explained any way except that he's a colossal dickhole. It's no different from a person lying about ANY tragedy in order to get attention and sympathy. FUCK HIM.

That would be sad if that were true. Even today the gay are no better off than (suspected) communists during the McCarthy era. It's mind-boggling to me that so many people still consider homosexuality a threat when there is so much violence in this world, random and organized. First of all, Manti has had girlfriends in high school. He had a reputation of really liking girls and the girls liked him.
I know people who know Manti and they say he is a really nice kid. He is very naive being raised on small island in a very small town; a country town made up of mainly Samoans in a town that has one grocery store that doesn't carry coffee or alcohol and is closed on the weekends because they are Morman.
I truly believe the only thing Manti is guilty of is continuing the story after he found out because he was humiliated.
People need to try and look at this through the frame of reference that Manti has. It is not sophisticated and worldly at all.

I don't think he was a victim of a catfish scam, I think there are several clear differences between his case and that of the sort of people you see on the show Catfish. He had a lot to gain from perpetuating the lie of this story. It prevents him from having to have any sort of relationship with an actual woman, it got him attention, it got him sympathy and support. Most of the people who fall for those scams are sort of lonely and isolated people, they are not celebrated popular athletes competing on a national level. They are the sort of people who don't have tons of options in romantic partners, but he was at a college with thousands and thousands of single women, was well known...it just doesn't really make any sense that he would have a "girlfriend" that he only communicated with on twitter and never noticed it was a man talking during their phone coversations.
Not sure why Katie is even asking him this. It may be what the audience wants to know but who cares! Getting back on topic. He allegedly created this fictitious story and lied about it. Wish he and the story would go away. I keep expecting a book and tv movie to come out any moment now... UGH.

Why is it that people who are so adamant about gay rights seem to be the very first to make snap judgments about people's sexuality when they have no inside knowledge? Everyone is accused of being gay, especially (God forbid) if they are religious?

It's not really a double standard at all, and I don't think anybody is making mean comments about him because he's gay they're doing it because he made up a fake girlfriend for attention and to hide his sexuality. The reason there are so many religious closet cases is because some people are born gay and some people are unfortunately born gay and into families with ignorant, outdated beliefs so they are conditioned to repress their sexuality. It is usually those who are born gay and are taught that it is a sin that very actively try to deny equal rights to gay people because they can't resolve their internal conflicts about it. Most straight people, regardless if they are religious or not, don't spend a lot of time worrying about what gay people do, but closet cases obsess over it.

I believe that this kid is not only entirely confused about his sexuality, but a malignant, attention seeking narcissist. He fits all of the criteria, and if you notice his apologies all come with disclaimers. Now that the shit has hit the fan his "friend" is taking the fall and he is still playing the victim. He got caught thinking he was smarter than every one else and is no different from any other scam artist except that technically he did nothing illegal, at least so far in what has come out.
I don't believe ND was complicit in hatching the scheme, but they sure as hell were in promoting it, enabling him and attempting to cover it up. His real dead grandmother wasn't enough? Clearly being a nationally recognized football star wasn't enough for this kid. His psychosis is far from being known.

No ND affiliation here, but the school hardly left him "out to dry." Their athletic AD made a statement of unqualified support for the kid and practically came to tears while doing it.
