Hot water should help loosen muscles. Have you tried a warm poultice? If you have salt, plain old salt, this is an old thing...warm it in a frying pan, don't burn it, put it in a zip lock bag and then warp it in a towel. Wrap it around whatever hurts, works like a heating pad, but doesn't hurt as much and conforms to the shape. If that makes any sense.
