Neeeeeeeenah Garcia Is Really In Touch
Project Runway's Nina Garcia left a lovely "Note from the 1%" for her Twitter followers on Thursday when she told them about a must-have bag that will any cost them 3 paychecks AT MOST. Because Nina said "this IS the bag" and said it would last you a lifetime, you expect the link to lead you to a vintage Lisa Frank bubblegum duffel bag. Right? Right. But instead, Nina Garcia led her followers to a leather bag that is more overpriced than the leather bag slobbering over it:
Maybe it's because I don't carry a purse (shut up), but do you really need to spend three weeks salary on ANY purse? Can't you just grab a Hefty bag, roll it in glue and glitter, throw your shit in there and call it good? A Hefty bag covered in glitter is a lot hotter than most of the tired bags I've seen out there.
Nina's tweet sort of reminds me of this episode of Beverly Hills Teens where that hot bitch Bianca goes shopping at a new mall she's never been before. Bianca pulls up to a mall that is so tall it reaches the clouds and she says, "Oh, how cute, one of those new mini malls!"
And right after GOOPY Paltrow read Nina's tweet, she said out loud, "A FEW weeks salary? As in more than two? I knew there were poor people out there, but I didn't know they were THAT poor. What a world." Because of Nina's tweet, GOOPY is going to donate a few of the Birkins she keeps her recyclables in to the less fortunate. So Nina Garcia's clueless tweet did some good. See!

Enough with slamming the rich because they can afford $26k bags when you can't pay your mortgage. They were either born lucky, or worked hard and took advantage of every opportunity. If you can't make ends meet, then you probably weren't born lucky, or haven't worked hard enough, and haven't taken all opportunities.

You forgot that some people are rich because they have no ethics or morals and make their handbag money by fucking over other people. But that's not really the argument here. Just because something is expensive does not mean it is in good taste, and just because something is $20 does not mean it's ugly. Fashion is subjective. And Nina is not catching flack because she likes this bag. She's catching flack because she is on another planet if she thinks that for most people it is only a few weeks salary (although in her circle, it probably is).

I got a very large Dooney & Bourke over the shoulder type of tote from someone, tan w/ black, w/ the logos all over it like lots of those kinds of bags. Is this a brand/style that's not so expensive but trying to look it? It's not cheap and I'm NOT usually conscious of this kind of stuff. I usually wear no-name stuff but I'm still wondering...

What bothers me is people today, if you make your money from working hard and being honest you can't buy that nice car, you can't go on vacation and it's all hush hush or someone will be offended and say how dare you and you should give it away to others. Everything in the stores try to mirror that Hermes look, which is so dated ,boxy and old lady to me.
I'm almost embarrassed now to carry my tan-coloured Mulberry "Alexa" handbag because of the knockoffs. I bought it when it was just released 3 years ago, and it was still a limited edition item. Now, literally every second girl you see on the streets aged 18-35 in the UK is carrying a knockoff of the bag, and I just feel really sad for mine. £700 later of course. The alternative is my red Prada tote that I'm too terrified to carry anywhere in case I get stabbed for it.
I'm reminded that last time I was in Italy it was virtually impossible to find those rip-off bags you find all laid out on a sheet on the sidewalks. The government was REALLY cracking down on them and it was a fine to buy them. A huge one.
I don't know why you'd buy a Birkin through a 3rd party rather than directly from Hermes. Looks very easy to duplicate.

One of my kids' speech therapists got some fancy bag (I don't remember what it is now because I don't care about these things, but I looked it up when she bragged about it and it was $$$$$) from an aunt of hers for graduation. Nice and all, but this girl wears jeans, sneakers and t-shirts weith weird sayings on them constantly; when she does wear something more professional looking, she always has that "playing dress up in my mother's closet" look to her. She looks ridiculous carrying that bag around.
I love the style/look/shape of this bag. It's classic and simple. But in NO FUCKING WAY would I EVER pay that much money for a bag. I'm poor so I couldn't afford one anyway.
