Hot Slut Of The Day!

Bell, the hero chihuahua who SAVED THE LIVES!!!! of two little sisters in Georgia on Monday.

8-year-old Carlie and 5-year-old Lacey took their dog Lucy for a walk into the woods in Georgia on Monday afternoon and after wandering around for a little bit, they realized that they were lost and couldn't figure out how to get back. The girls looked down at Lucy's face to help them out, but that bitch was useless and looked at them like, "Don't look at me, I only know what to do if your asses fall down a well." The girls thought they were going to spend the night, huddling together in the trees while nibbling on leaves for nourishment.

When the girls didn't come back from their walk after 2 hours, their mother Rebecca Parga freaked out, called the police and asked all her neighbors for help. As the cops and firemen searched for the girls, Rebecca's neighbor Carvin Young knew what to do. Carvin took the headset off of the head of his chihuahua Bell, who volunteers during the day for a missing children hotline, and told her to get to work. CBS Atlanta (via HuffPo) says that Bell showed up the police and their canine dogs when she ran into the woods and led everyone to the girls. Rebecca says that her daughters always play with Bell, so the life-saving chihuahua probably knew their scent. Here's the story in moving picture form from CBS Atlanta. (Side note: You're wrong like me if you looked at Carlie's hair and said to yourself that Bell needs to lead her to a brush. We need to stop, because she was lost in the woods for 2 hours! Everyone's hair looks like that after being lost in the woods for 2 hours!):

CBS Atlanta 46

A happy ending brought to you by a chihuahua! I always knew that Lassie's successor would be a chihuahua. (Cut to my chihuahua who spent a full 2 minutes looking for his own b-hole before giving up and going back to bed for the 10th time this morning.)

(Thanks Roman & Sapan)

8 and 5 are waaay too young to be walking in the woods by themselves in this day and age. Not safe at all. And no one is being a helicopter parent by wanting to keep their kids safe. Yay for Bell. <3 Good puppy. :)

Green Fairy, I agree. If you live in a place that is safe enough, your kids should be out of the house and in the world. Sounds like their parents were very aware of where they should be and when they should be back.

ROFL It's so true! I look at my baby and remember when my brother and I had 'wars' shooting bottle rockets through the vacuum cleaner attachments at each other, and I know I'm going to have to watch him like a hawk. He was 9, I was 7, and our teenage babysitter was more interested in her soaps than watching us.

Don't give a fuck WHO doesn't like or appreciate MY helicopter parenting, the first 5 years ALONE are straight-up "suicide watch" so they don't kill themselves doing regular shit. Maybe it's because I'm old as fuck having my only Kizzelet, but I didn't go through all I went through in order to have him for him to get gone out of sheer stupidity, let alone something nefarious.

Amen Kizzy. Per the US Dept of Justice, here's some info on kidnapped kids:

During the study year, there were an estimated 115
stereotypical kidnappings, defined as abductions perpetrated
by a stranger or slight acquaintance and
involving a child who was transported 50 or more
miles, detained overnight, held for ransom or with
the intent to keep the child permanently, or killed.
■ In 40 percent of stereotypical kidnappings, the child
was killed, and in another 4 percent, the child was
not recovered.
■ There were an estimated 58,200 child victims of nonfamily
abduction, defined more broadly to include
all nonfamily perpetrators (friends and acquaintances
as well as strangers) and crimes involving lesser
amounts of forced movement or detention in addition
to the more serious crimes entailed in stereotypical
kidnappings.
■ Fifty-seven percent of children abducted by a nonfamily
perpetrator were missing from caretakers for
at least 1 hour, and police were contacted to help
locate 21 percent of the abducted children.

If your child were included in any of the scenarios listed above, you'd be damn sorry you weren't a helicopter parent.

*sorry for the long post but I believe you can't be too careful with kids - EVER*

I'm on the side of "what the hell are these two kids doing walking down the road by themselves"
What is it, daily? we see the news and kids are beng kidnapped and killed?

Also I believe there is a balaNce between free range parenting and helicopter parenting. 2 new terms for me. I think it's called common sense.
Unfortunately, alot of parents don't have any.

My daughter is 26 and I still worry about her all the time. If I had a son---probably not so much.

Bda's picture

Free range parenting is the dumbest shit I've ever heard. Just don't go on tv begging for help when your kid is missing...they'll probably be dead and in a river by then anyway. Sorry just the way it is.

Bda's picture

Who the fuck let's an 8 and 5 year old walk a dog alone? In this fucking day and age with so much knowledge on the dangers of pedophiles and general psychos out there? WTF is wrong with people?

BTW is that a full breed chihuaha? It doesn't really look like one in that picture.

Not that things are necessarily more dangerous but there is tremendous pressure to helicopter. What used to be normal is now cause for CPS getting involved. It sucks.

FC - I didn't read the previous comments so if it was already said, then fine.

I know times were different when we were growing up, out the door after breakfast and back when it was dinner time, but times are different and I don't care what era you grew up in 8 & 5 are too young to be unsupervised. Period.

Athina's picture

IV, I've often wondered that myself---are there really more kidnappings and abductions now than there were, say 50 years ago, or are we simply more aware of them now because of the media? The first widely televised and covered kidnapping I remember was the Adam Walsh kidnapping. That one really resonated with me because it happened in my home town, I was about the same age as Adam when he disappeared, AND I was at the very mall he disappeared from the same day he disappeared. FREAKY.

Maybe I watch too much tv, or read too many horrible news stories, but we live in a very different world than we did even just 25 years ago. I know what you mean about helicoptering. It's annoying. But if being a helicopter parent for the first few years of my kid's life is what it takes to keep him safe, then that's what I have to do. When he's old enough to know how to fight and protect himself from what's out there, I'll back off. Until then, it's my job.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But we don't really live in a different world. Perhaps not as many moms home as when I was young, but the world is what it ever was. By helicopter parenting I am speaking of those who will not let their children - regardless of age or ability level - out of their sight for a single solitary second. That's smothering, not parenting. And I'm not referring to the first years of children's lives, when you are teaching them all these things they need to get along in the world, but later.

The media makes a ballyhoo of kidnapping when it occurs but it is rare. The world is no more or less dangerous than it ever was, and we all eventually have to grow up and take our place in it. Leonre Skenazy's blog, free range parenting, is excellent reading, and food for thought, too. She makes excellent points that adults get abducted, too. It happens. But by and large, the world is what it is, bad things happen, but bubble-wrapped kids on a shelf like precious china (not saying you do this, but other parents I know) isn't teaching them anything but paranoia.

Agree. You have to watch little kids like a hawk.
Tragedy can happen at any moment.
My neighbors across the fence were all home, very nice young well-to-do family, wife, husband, two little sons and a 3-year-old daughter Charlie. They noticed the little girl missing, went into their backyard and found Charlie floating dead in their own pool.
The family moved away after this. They couldn't stay and live in that house.

I agree with you IV and Athina. I remember as a child running out the front door in the morning after breakfast then wandering back home for dinner. Sadly my son's didnt have it like this...too many kids being taken off the streets and parks then friends parents who may not be kosher. You want them to be free but then you want them to emerge from childhood unsullied and alive.

Athina, there is an eight year old who runs around free in the neighborhood all day long. He comes over and plays sometimes with my son. The mom called me out of the blue one day and asked if both her sons could stay the weekend. Since I don't know her family well at all I politely declined but she was basically willing to leave her kids with strangers.

And even I had been lost in the woods for hours my mama would have made sure to run a comb through my hair before I gave television interviews!
