Justin Bieber Gets Free Gas Because He's Allegedly An Eskimo?!?
Canadian DListed readers, we're going to need you bitches to pipe in. Is this true? If you're a certain ethnicity, you don't have to pay at the pumps? Or am I even more challenged than I thought I was for wondering if this is accurate.
In his recent Rolling Stone interview (the one with the recycled Lohan header), the Little Lesbian That Could (Justin Bieber) told the reporter that he was an Eskimo (is that word allowed? I stopped using "tranny" so I get credit for that, right?) and that being a...native Canadian(? I'm lost when it comes to politically correct terms for Canada) entitled him to free Hess. Huh?
"I'm actually part Indian. I think Inuit or something? I'm enough per cent that in Canada I can get free gas, " Bieber said. Probably while texting. This sounds like something a dumb person would say while not paying attention because he's busy trying to find an emoticon that sums up "so jelly of those sneaks, girl".
A disgruntled roadie obviously told him this in jest because fucking with the star is funny and that leg of the tour was almost over. He also probably thinks he doesn't have to open his own mail because he's a Pieces.
If this IS true, we should implement this program in other places. Howabout letting us fag-o-trons skip paying for Astroglide? Adds up.
Check out pics of Justin and the pedophile Selena Gomez (are these two aging backwards?) visiting the Starship Childrens Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand. Shit, he was visiting sick kids. I'm officially a petty dickhead.
Note - remember when J. Harvey was a dumb motherfucker and forgot to re-size pics and shut down DListed? Good times. It was nice posting for you lovely people while it lasted. *sad face*

Well, I responded to your post, but I didn't think I was taking you too seriously. My point about ragging on his voice was meant to be akin to us ragging on an actor, making a ton of money, whose talent doesn't appear (to me) to justify the money they make. We can't control it, I know, because somewhere there are consumers whose spending habits influence the "artists'" pay.
Unlike you, I really can't say whether or not Bieber still sounds like a chipmunk. And honestly, most singers lose at least some range in decades beyond puberty. For example, I know Elton John sure as hell can't sing "Crocodile Rock" in the same key he did when he was in his 20's. And much has been said regarding Whitney Houston and the toll drugs took on her vocal abilities. If Bieber's voice has changed, some of us will never know, but he still looks like he isn't maturing.
But by all means, don't refrain from commenting just because you think your opinions "don't fit." Personally, I feel like dlisted is the Cyberland of the Misfit Toys; none of us belong in the mainstream. Very few people get butt-hurt over a difference of opinion. As a matter of fact, a dissenting opinion gives us all the opportunity to state why ours differ.

He would not get free gas. If you drive to a reservation you will get cheaper gas then you can buy off the reservation, and if you have a status card you can get it even cheaper. I go to the reservation to buy cheap cigarettes, fire crackers, and I always fill up on gas. Justin is an absolute idiot for saying this. Free gas in Canada? That is the biggest laugh. We are getting taxed/raped at the pumps thanks to Harper.

You people took my post way too seriously. This is why I always read and almost never post, the way I think doesn't seem to fit in around here. Make fun of the little lesbian all you want, I don't care, I'm not a fan and I rag on him at times myself. If you still think he sounds like a castrated chipmunk, by all means, say so, reading the posts and the comments get me through my work day. All I was getting at was that I don't know why people keep saying things like his career will be over when his voice changes or that he hasn't hit puberty or whatever, because it makes no sense, his voice HAS changed and his stupid fans are still eating it up. That has nothing to do with making fun of it or not.
Thanks harfang...I was mostly just messing around ;) Can't keep all these terms straight nowadays...what's a ho to do?
I used to date a guy from Tennessee who had VERY pointed opinions on the PC-ness of "hick" vs. "redneck." One's OK (and a point of pride, in fact) and one is very much NOT OK, but I can't remember which is which. lol

It's PHELPS time!
I'm going to look at this post in greater detail tomorrow. Right now, I needz to hit the sheets.
That said, regardless of color, ethnicity, yada yada yada, we are ALL humans.
Years back, a friend invited me to her law school graduation party. I was the only person of color there. And by person of color, I mean that I was the only white person invited.
Some, unfamiliar with me, shunned me. But at the end of the night, I found myself sitting at the dinner table with the remaining guests. They thanked me for listening to their stories. I had to ask why. After all, we are ALL humans.
Rare rant over. Hooker out.

It's LOCHTE time! JEAH!
What ever...he's 100% dumb fuck.
Mm, and when I'm with black folks, we always say black, but when I'm with white folks, we always say "African-American." Latin, Hispanic, Mexican, Mexican-American, etc, is also a tough one as some of the time Latin is cool, Hispanic is almost never cool, Mexican is specific, etc etc - you sort of have to know who you're talking to. When I talk to my Canadian family, they say First Nation and Intuit but sometimes they say Indian and make the distinction of Indians from India by saying EAST Indians. I think. When you're in the racial trenches, I do think everyone is less PC -- meaning PC terminology is mostly for Caucasians and interacting in "mainstream" America. Except for Oriental. Asians and Asian-Americans never use that amongst themselves or with other non-white groups when identifying (or referring to) themselves racially.
This thread has been very informational re First Nation, Intuit, Eskimo, etc. I would've never known...
Fake. Do your homework. Slow news day?

whoa, now I'm really confused...so it *is* OK to use Eskimo?
What about Eskimo pies? those are delicious.
_______________________________________________
Eagledancer's point (thanks @Eagledancer, yer awesome) is that the term "Eskimo" is specifically OK to use when referring to Alaska Natives who are Yupik or Inupiaq. (There are other Alaska Natives who belong to other tribes and/or nations; those people are not Eskimo(s).) "Eskimo" is not ultimately copacetic to use when referring to any Canadian Natives. Incidentally, some of the folks whom Eagledancer calls Siberian Yupik (which IS *a* correct term) who actually live in Russia call themselves Russian Eskimos, but that's I think on an individual tribe-to-tribe (and possibly community-to-community) basis.
Also I feel compelled to add that many First Nation(s) people in southern Canada still call themselves Indian. Relatedly, I live in a major metro area in the States (Minneapolis/St. Paul, aka the Twin Cities; I live in Minneapolis myself) in which the simple term "Native" is currently gaining popularity with our "Native American" aka American Indian community; but a lot of Native folks here still prefer to call themselves Indian, too. Very few Native people around here who do not have white privilege resulting from their individual appearance were ever OK with the term "Native American."
So, the okayness of terminology for the situation of being culturally and/or visibly Native American is profoundly regional.
Submitted by Eagledancer on Sat, 07/21/2012 - Historically, we only have status if we can document we are at least 1/4th of a federally recognized tribe. In other words, we are the only ethnic group whose blood quantum is tracked by the American government acting like the American Kennel Club does with poodles.
_______________________________________________
I don't know how particularly true that statement actually is, my grandfather on my mother's side is not full native american, he's certainly more than 1/4th, I'd say probably a good 75%, he also had to go to an all Native American school as a boy during segregation. However, I know I have no where near the amount of Native blood he has (it's clear, physically I have native blood, I was called "half-breed" by a few people, that was fun -_-), I don't even know if it's 1/4, my grandmother, has native heritage as well, on my father side I couldn't tell you, but, I had a native american card(even though my birth certs lists me as caucasian) when i was younger as well, and I don't think they checked my percentage, I don't even think they can via "blood work", yet I still got one.So I think they base it off a close relative NOW and not particularly what your "actual" amount is.

That's why I don't put down I'm part Native American on my census forms anymore! The U.S. government will seriously come after you if you even mention any Native American blood. If it's not one of your grandparents, you cannot claim to be Native American.

I'm here to kick ass and drink tea. And I'm all out of tea.
btw the Oneidas are Iroquoian people, so I think this mush brain got Inuit mixed up with Iroquoian. At least let's hope so.
I am Canadian and know full blooded Carrier Natives that certainly do not get free gas.(I am a member of the Metis nation myself, long story short meaning I have some native blood in me; my Great Grandfather was Cree). If one has a Status or Metis card and we show it at certain Native gas stations, we do get a discount, but not free gas. I doubt it's any different for Native Inuits.
Justin actually may be telling a semi=truth here. He grew up in a place called Stratford, Ontario, which isn't too far from where I live right now. Aboot a half hr away. Anyway, in this area he grew up there is a reservation (about 20mins away from where I live) called the Oneida Nation of the Thames. Many people in my city as well as Stratford have what they call an "aboriginal status" card. You do not get "free" gas however, the boy is confused. The card DOES exempt people from having to pay Canadian Taxes if they have said card, which results in cheaper gas, but certainly not free. As a result of having a "rez" so close to his home town it wouldn't at all surprise me if say justin's great great granddaddy was a member of the Oneida Nation of the Thames, as we have many people who belong to that nation that live in and around my city as well as Stratford. An Aboriginal status card around these parts is NOT an uncommon thing, and he may be telling the truth about having one. However, this kid is complete screw ball and I'm sure he has embarrassed his distant relatives a LOT with this one. Inuit? Come on dude, if you don't know what nation your great great grandparent came from just keep your mouth shut. It's insulting and shameful.
In Canada, in order to get a Status Card, there is a two generation cut-off created when the Indian Act was revised in 1985 stipulates only children born of two Indian status parents inherit status. It's known as Bill C-31.
As for the free gas thing, the boy is an idiot. Sure, if he was treaty, (or had the status card) he'd be exempt from tax on his gas bought ONLY only the reserve.
And oh, Biebs, even if you are Inuit, you wouldn't qualify for a Status card because according to the Indian Act (look it up, learn something about our heritage) the Inuit are not covered.

I'm sure the Inuits will all agree that that the only thing he's part of is being an IDIOT! Ok so he's still young but come on.
Oneida Nation of the Thames to be exact.
Lez Dumbass should have stayed in school, or paid for better home ed teachers!
Justin Beiber is from Stratford Ontario, which is about a half hr from where I live. We have a reservation just 20 minutes outside our city.He may actually be telling a semi-truth although he is clearly confused. Many people in around this area have what you call an aboriginal status card (something of that nature) which entitles them to be exempt from paying Canadian taxes. In around the area he grew up (and where I happen to live) we have many Aboriginal people, and I wouldn't be surprised if perhaps Justin's great great grandfather was a member of the 6 nations (probably Oneida Nation, as that is the reservation which happens to be closest to his home town and I). Believe me when I say it is not uncommon for people to have an aboriginal status card around the area he grew up...but as for the "free" gas, lol...NO. Just tax-free.
The older he gets the more feminine he looks. Menopause is gonna be a bitch.

SANS, as I understand from EagleDancer's comment, there's plenty of Eskimo in Alaska (which of course belongs to US) and it's totally fine and PC to call them Eskimo. And there's no Eskimo in Canada , and it's not okay to call Canadian aboriginals Eskimo. It kinda makes a lot of sense now.
what a fuckwit the Beav is. the Inuit haven't been called Eskimos since 1985 and if he were part of that group, he'd never call himself an 'Indian'. also, only First Nations peoples get some taxation relief, but it's minimal. Gas is still fucking expensive for all of us. Beaver needs a kick in the ass. Aboriginal Peoples are either First Nations (formerly known as 'Indians'), Metis, or Inuit. Beaver is part of the fuckwit nation.
He's full of shit, Canadian natives pay for gas, no matter what ethnicity they are.

no he cannot get free gas, that's ridiculous. He hasn't lived in Canada since he was what, 12? He clearly knows nothing about our country. He can barely remember what our country even stands for, considering his behaviour lately. Natives in Canada are exempt from paying certain sales taxes, but they have to prove their Native status and have the government issued Native ID with them when they are making a purchase. I worked in retail for a few years, and a form has to be filled out and it takes foreverrrr. and they usually end up saving a few cents, it's kind of ridiculous. So no, a random person can't just not pay for gas because they claim they are 'eskimo'
I love Justin, but he really does make himself sound like a dumbass when he speaks. :(

Ya know -I thought eskimo wasn't alright nowadays either -
one time on Dlisted I commented about clubbing baby seals and how I was OK with the eskimo's killing a seal or a whale because it was their culture and a few canadian Dlisters clubbed ME for using the term so who fucking knows.
On that note,Im still amazed that a country like Canada who share our values on animal cruelty etc are still clubbing the seals-why arent they doing it humanely and if they still feel the need to club something -how about Justin Bieber instead?
