At Least 12 Dead After A Shooting At A Showing Of The Dark Knight Rises (UPDATES)
Well, here's some scary, terrible, horrific, fucked up shit for a Friday morning. During a midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises at the Century 16 movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, a 24-year-old crazy kicked open the emergency exit door and opened fire on everyone inside. Yeah, I'll pause as you trade your cup of morning liquid caffeine for a bottle of something brain-numbing.
Witnesses tell The Denver Post that the gunman was wearing camo all-black, a riot helmet on his head, a gas mask on his face and a bullet-proof vest. When he busted into the theater, he threw some kind of canister, which started hissing and spitting out some kind of gas. That's when he started shooting. I don't know if he timed it or it was just a tragic coincidence, but he started shooting during a shootout scene early in the movie. One witness said that many people thought the gun shots were coming from the movie and one thought that the smoke was some kind of special effect. When they realized what was going on, they ran for the doors.
So far, 12 people are confirmed dead (there are reports that 14 are dead) and 50 71 are wounded. A witness told Matt Lauer on Today this morning that she believes several children were shot.
The shooter, who has been ID'ed as 24-year-old James Holmes, didn't kill himself, which surprised me. He also didn't put up a fight when cops arrested him and grabbed his shot gun, a hand gun and an AK rifle. Police found a third gun inside of the theater. His apartment building in North Aurora was evacuated after he told police that there were explosives in his apartment. Police believe the shooter acted alone.

UPDATE: ABC News is real quick, because they have already contacted the maniac's mother in San Diego. She hasn't been contacted by police yet, didn't know of the shooting before ABC News told her and she also wasn't at all surprised. She only said, “You have the right person. I need to fly out to Colorado."
UPDATE II: The Paris premiere has been canceled. Also, Reddit has a detailed timeline of the events. It basically translates into: the world is fucked.

I just saw a guy being interviewed on tv who was in the theater and he's fucking laughing about it. I guess it was real fucking cool to have that experience at a Batman movie.

I read that too, I couldn't help but think of Final Destination. Poor girl, she was only 23.
This is so sad. I am so sorry for the families of the victims. How horrible.
Back when I worked a night shift, there was a guy there who was a really odd loner. He was emotionally unstable, socially awkward, and had major anger issues. My coworkers and I complained constantly about him. We were afraid to work alone with him since our supervisors went home at 5. They laughed it off and said we were just being silly.
He shot a supervisor and then himself. His neighbors all said he was a quiet guy, a little weird, but liked to keep to himself.
I suspect the same profile will emerge when the authorities look into this killer’s background

because dlisted seems like a good outlet to say this: f@#$# him. f@#$ the guy who walks into a movie theatre and opens fire. i swear on my life, if any stupid, trying to get the big story interviews this waste of space and gives him his desired fame, i will throw empty wine glass at the television. so heartbreaking.
skinny fat - yes. I am very relieve to know that it's not just "us". I'd filled out a behavioral health check off sheet as well as listing episodes and my concerns and D's dr. was SO HAPPY I did that because with that he could see the individual areas where issues were arising. He also explained tyo D that we were getting another doctor to come and talk to him and that whatever he told that dr. was confidential, so whatever he is not comfortable telling us, he can tell that doctor and it's safe. His Ped is staying in the loop so we can handle whatever is going on on both a mental AND physical level.
I love my sons pediatrician. He's a really, REALLY good guy and is really vested in my kids. He was there for the birth of them both.

my point with the "a-m-e-n-d-m-e-n-t" comment is that the constitution is not iron-clad. laws change as our country does. But again, I'm not advocating banning guns. You went to that extreme, not me. My counter argument was for common sense to prevail, but that is too reasonable apparently for some people here. i was just stating my opinion, which is still ok in the good ol' usa, right?

Yes, the Second Ammendment is not iron clad. But then, neither are the 13th or the 19th Amendments. I'm pretty sure that most people here, myself included, are pretty attached to those ones.
The issue is not whether or not the Constitution can be changed. It can. It's whether or not it's right to do so. You have yet to provide an argument for that in this case.
Constantly repeating that you're only trying to bring common sense to the discussion means less than nothing when you (1) aren't offering any concrete suggestions and (2) have yet to provide any arguments as to why you're right.
Getting pissy because someone disagrees with you is not helping. Again, the whole point of the 2nd Amendment is that the authorities do *not* get a complete monopoly on force. And it's a spectacularly bad idea to start a debate on citizens' rights by considering "do they really need that?" It gives the govt far too much power.
Now, how about explaining how I'm wrong, instead of throwing a hissy fit that I'm not conforming to your rubbish ideas of "compromise" and "common sense"? Believing that something is reasonable does not, in and of itself, make it so. You're actually going to have to show how what you're saying is reasonable.

Just fucking awful, my heart goes out to the victims and their families. Apprently the shooter had ties to the tea party, maybe that'll finally shut 'em up (probably not). I also hope that this isn't a false flag of some sort, seems like there can't be a batman movie without a trajedy involved.
