QOTD: Morgan Freeman Doesn't Think Obama Is America's First Black President
Here we go again....
Morgan Freeman was a guest on NPR'S Tell Me More show the other day to promote one of his new movies and somehow the conversation moved into the topic of Obama and how the Republican Party had it out for Obama from the beginning. Morgan thinks that one of the problems is that we keep calling Obama the first black president when he's really America's first mixed-race president. Obama has said before that he identifies himself as an African-American dude. (Side note: I'm mixed and whenever somebody asks me which side I identify with most, I tell them the side that gets me the best presents for my birthday. It's the only logical way of looking at it.) Here's how Morgan Freeman broke it down for us:
"First thing that always pops into my head regarding our president is that all of the people who are setting up this barrier for him ... they just conveniently forget that Barack had a mama, and she was white — very white American, Kansas, middle of America. There was no argument about who he is or what he is. America's first black president hasn't arisen yet. He's not America's first black president — he's America's first mixed-race president."
He is being purposely, purposely thwarted by the Republican Party, who started out at the beginning of his tenure by saying, 'We are going to do whatever is necessary to make sure that he's only going to serve one term.' That means they will not cooperate with him on anything. So to say he's ineffective is a misappropriation of the facts."
And it was just last year when Morgan Freeman called Obama a black man while talking to Piers Morgan about the Tea Party crazies:
"Their stated policy, publicly stated, is to do whatever it takes to see to it that Obama only serves one term. What’s, what does that, what underlines that? 'Screw the country. We’re going to whatever we do to get this black man, we can, we’re going to do whatever we can to get this black man outta here.'"
WHICH IS IT, MORGAN FREEMAN? Stop allegedly boning your step granddaughter and clarify this shit. This nation needs to know whether or not Morgan Freeman thinks Obama is a black man or a mixed-race man. WE NEED TO KNOW. No, we don't, but we do need Morgan to answer Harvey Levin's calls about Katie Holmes and Tommy Girl. The only tea I want MF to spill is TomKat tea.

Miz, here's the deal. I have a friend who is a radical Conservative and who insists that Obama was born outside the U.S. and is a Muslim. She hates him for this. I know that if his name was Bob Jones, she and a lot of others wouldn't question his birth if he was born on the damn moon. But because of this and his race, he is hated. She has been the source of more bullshit and complete lies about Obama that she believes because they came from Fox News (SAY WHAT?), it's sickening. One example: she put something out there in a blast email and I refuted it with proof how wrong she was the next day. But one of the email recipients had already gone to work and told everyone how Obama did this one thing, which he didn't. When she got my email she came to me and apologized for jumping the gun and was remorseful she had told everyone in her office. But my friend who is such an Obama-hater said, "Okay, but I still believe what I wrote.".
IMO the vast number of people who end up voting for that clown Romney are only doing it because they hate Obama and not for any valid reason. I'm not thrilled with Obama myself but I'll take him and give him another chance any day over someone like Romney who is intent on making those of us without penises go back in the kitchen and having babies like his wife did. I also have no respect for a man who abuses dogs like he did to his. And furthermore, that asshole will be for the rich and only for the rich. He has no conception of what it's like to live paycheck to paycheck or to have to decide whether to pay the electric bill or put food on the table because you can't afford to do both.

Although he hasn't kept all of his campaign promises, he has kept many of them and many of the one's that he was unable to push threw this term was of the stone walling of the republican led congress. I think people will look back on his first term and judge the republican led congress far far more harshly than anyone will ever judge Obama. In fact, no president has ever been able to keep all of his campaign promises and Obama has been no worse than the vast majority of them so contrary to your belief, I doubt that will be reason enough for future historians to classify him as the worst president of all time, in fact, in a recent poll, Obama came in as the 6th or 7th, (im not sure) best president of all time....I highly doubt that somehow not keeping a few campaign promises will somehow make him dead last, seems illogical.
And as for your unsubstantiated claim that the president is unpatriotic, I've never seen Obama say or do anything that was purposely derogatory towards America, link please...

Evil Shoe - I lived through the Kennedy, LBJ, Nixon, Carter, etc... years. I barely survived the Bush years too. Carter tried his best though; Bush just didn't fucking care.

Have you ever seen that story Katie Couric did on how our debt was sold? It was the first time anyone had ever been allowed inside the rooms. It was around 2008. Back then, the US sold our debt to private investors and other countries and they would not even ask us what we did with the money. Now, even China gives us the side-eye and selling our debt is difficult when it was once easy. We may have not missed a payment back but shit is getting real when people aren't handing us swaying stacks of cash as they used to.

I remember the Carter years. My family almost lost their house and we had almost no food. My parents worked four jobs. The inflation was horrific. My dad worked two full-time jobs as a firefighter so you know that schedule was bad and my mom worked at a bank and as a cashier at Winn-Dixie. They still couldn't make it and they had zero debt, no school loans, no car payments, just a mortgage. Food costs were insane. My mom worked at Winn-Dixie yet we bought dented canned food from a little store.

We are definitely heading the same direction. It is not possible to keep creating this much debt and not have it happen. Just not possible. The tsunami just hasn't hit yet. In both my recent economic classes by two different professors they warned the students it was coming. We haven't been saved by anything. We've been given false numbers to keep the public calm.
I haven't read all the comments on this yet....but, I'll throw down. Morgan Freeman's divorce was chock full of juicy family dysfunction. Some made its way to the popular press, but not much. So, I think Morgan just jumps in with a political view now and then to shore up his ....rather shaky---public image. He's a fantastic actor and so well respected ... prior to the details of his actions finding their way to the public discourse.
I think there is A LOT of CONSERVATIVE $$$$ in Hollywood. And they call in their markers during election season to swing public opinion.

So black people aren't capable of objective thought who vote for who they believe to be the better candidate but have to be shamed, threatened or otherwise coerced into voting? I don't think that's correct. And I fail to find a reference where Obama said black people were "disrespecting themselves" by voting for McCain, link please? And how were black women torn in deciding between Hilary and Obama? I'm lost, I never once saw, heard, read or viewed anything where black women discussed their indecisiveness between the two candidates for these reasons, link please.

Obama did not do crack, he experimented with cocaine, there's a big difference as crack is often viewed as lowbrow, minority, inner city drug and has significantly stiffer legal consequences (20 years for 1 rock) than cocaine (1> year for one pound).
He didn't make a point of identifying as a basketball player, he made mention of it as he did many of his talents and hobbies, it's funny you focused on that one though.
I never contested that he used Affirmative Action so this is a moot point.
Oh, so playing basketball and experimenting with cocaine are reason's not to be given (notice I didn't say "used" because it's not a commodity that people choose to use but something individual schools grant often without the students knowledge) Affirmative Action? You think it's fair for Affirmative Action beneficiaries to held at a higher standard than their peers just because? So the white people Obama may have been experimenting with should get academic prohibition but Obama gets expelled for the same infraction all because he received a benefit he never asked for but which the government mandated for him? That's not ok, it's not right and that may be the purest demonstration of how institutionalized racism works that I've seen posted on this site.
Yet Bush was a C student with who held no positions of esteem while in college who came from a family of influence, I wonder why no one forged documents for him? Yet this man who comes from a working class family somehow tricks people into forging birth certificates, granting him undue academic success in not only Harvard, but every college he attended, weird. But it's ok, the top college in the country which also happens to be the most liberal is really a communist run organization that's in cahoots with the Noble Prize committee? it's a diversionary tactic to keep folks from realizing that people of all races, colors, and creeds have more in common with each other than they do with the upper echelon that bends them over daily while they catch up on how to hate each other... and watch reality shows.
